Did you install KDE yourself, or was it part of the
distro you used?
I use XFCE, it has no dependencies on Pulse.
I have Pulse on one XFCE, IIRC, it was something some Gnome app depended
on.
Part of the distro, but source based (gentoo) for KDE; arch for the xfce box
