There's a flag in the Jack API that an application can pass to control
automatic starting of the server if it isn't running. It's not
related to dbus at all. I remember experimenting with this a while
ago and having difficulty getting it to pick the right configuration.

From the docs it looks like there's an environment
variable that can
override Renoise's default behaviour.
