Paul's advice is sound - it does seem that certain very electronic styles
are much better suited to Ableton in particular.
If it's a more trad (Ardour-like?) DAW you're thinking of, for less
electronic and more recording-based production, then I second the
recommendation for Reaper.
disclaimer: I haven't worked very much in Windows for a long time, so this
is tantamount to hearsay....
