I asked myself that same question, before I learned to use MIDI keyboard
with nice software synths, and MIDI drum pads with hydrogen (& realistic
drum samples).
I don't do MIDI sequencing at all. just use MIDI hardware to control the
software that produces realistic sounds :-)
