Actually that can be configured in every package manager's GUI
front-end (if not then that front-end itself shouldn't exist). But I
suppose what was meant was that the default behaviour of not
auto-updating (or having a GUI front-end) is appealing.
Yes, you're probably right on both counts. And no auto-update is of
course appealing for those who don't want auto-updating. But these
users should be able to find out in a few minutes how to remove this
feature.
