I've been gifted an ASUS Republic of Gamers
(ROG) G750JX laptop but am having a
problem with it. It seem to ignore:
sudo /usr/bin/cpufreq-set -r -g performance
and instead always runs in ondemand mode.
It has a base speed of supposedly 2.4G, but actually runs at 2.3 or less and
very occasionally hits' 3.4G, just *after* Xruns.
There is nothing in the bios I can find regarding CPU frequency
Any suggestions?
Thanks again for all the suggestions and info. It seems laptops (in particular)
have become *far* more complicated in a very short time :(
I'll work through the suggestions and report on what (if anything) helps.
Incidentally, mate-system-monitor shows fairly long periods of just over 40% on
one core, switching between cores from time to time. All the others are running
between 5% and 10%.
Another complexity, perhaps, that I've never encountered: CPUs that combine
"power" and "efficiency" cores. My i9 is 9th generation, not an
"efficiency" core in sight.
Maybe that affects things, too?
