Paul's advice is sound - it does seem that certain
very electronic styles
are much better suited to Ableton in particular.
If it's a more trad (Ardour-like?) DAW you're thinking of, for less
electronic and more recording-based production, then I second the
recommendation for Reaper.
disclaimer: I haven't worked very much in Windows for a long time, so this
is tantamount to hearsay....
One advantage of Reaper over Mixbus (for now) is Reaper has MIDI
support. This won't be the case, of course, when Mixbus3 comes out
(which is supposed to be built on the Ardour3 codebase).
