Some front ports can't provide enough power for
the device. I'm guessing
this thing is USB powered right?
Okay, that makes as much sense as anything else. The front ports are
connected to a header on the motherboard; the rear ones are mounted
right to the MB. I'm sure they all use the same usb chip.
