Now what I'd like is an iPod player that's
Jack aware. When I plug my iPod
into USB, Rythmbox understands the format and plays the media on it, but of
course, it won't play into my FA-101 'cuz it appears to have no support for
Jack. Anyone have a recommendation for an iPod player that's Jack aware for
Ubuntu 8.04?
1.) get Amarok and KDE3
2.) make sure xinelib is jack-aware. There is a plugin for xinelib
called xine-jack yet I did not test that on Ubuntu, I build xinelib
myself with jack-support...
3.) Amarok works with the IPod (and many other player-gadgets too) if it
is set to use the xine-backend it will play via jack if jack is active.
Maybe you need to open xine before and choose the Jack as the
audio-output before - you only need to do the latter once.
Works just great for me ;-)
For everyday-audio I use alsaplayer that supports jack as well and
starts playing before its GUI is up -- very fast that is ;-)
Second question:
Any recommendations for an initial set of plugins for the basics in Ardour,
like Reverb, Chorus, etc.
The Ardour workflow is modular, its initial setup is with no plug ins
at all. If you really want plugins to be involved from the start:
1.) make a new project without recording or importing anything
2.) add 2-3 tracks as buses and insert plugins to your liking in them.
3.) store it as a template
You can then insert sends in your tracks that transport signals to the
FX-buses or make a right-klick on one of the plugins in the mixer-strip
and copy/paste them in individual tracks.
good luck :-)
