on debian you can also get it with `apt-get install youtube-dl`.
FWIW, there's also nicovideo-dl and metacafe-dl available on debian.
There's also a Firefox plugin called Download
Helper that works very
well with YouTube and a number of other similar sites.
They can be viewed with vlc or mplayer (no flash
player installed).
Yup. And I have mplayer playing through JACK, so the audio goes through
by USB sound card instead of the laptop's old HDA audio. Much nicer
experience!
For those being more pragmatic than idealistic: flash works just fine
with a jackplug in asoundrc:
