I'm looking for a application like Rosegarden that supports shaped
notes<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shape_note>te>.
Actually, I'd really like to use shaped notes in Rosegarden.
I want to be able to easily print rg and midi files with shaped notes. Note
display doesn't matter that much, as long as they print shaped.
I don't want to have to buy Finale just for this... Any suggestions?

Okay, not quite free ... but have a look at MUP http://www.arkkra.com/
I seem to recall from reading the manual for this that shaped note heads
are supported. Never tired it myself.

It seems that Lilypond would work, only I don't quite understand how. Like
you mentioned, Frank, Lilypond supports shaped notes as stated

question is: how do I use them? If I have a lilypnd file I exported
from
Rosegarden, can I print it with shaped notes? Or do I have to manually edit
the ly file and change the existing notes to shaped notes?

I wrote something in denemo and I clicked on the first note. Then I
selected MainMenu->Other->Insert Lilypond
in the popup I put it:
\aikenHeads
Now the entire score has aikenHeads on it.
This was with the current git version but I am sure it works for earlier
versions also. I think the oldest it may work on is .7.8 or .7.9. I am
not sure at the moment.
