hi everyone. this is something that has been annoying me for sometime. is it
at all possible to use the samples from a copy of bfd in any sampling
software in linux? they are all wav format files, but each file contains
(from memory) 11 tracks, one for each microphone. the idea is that you mix
and pan each microphone after assembling the kit. i would prefer not to have
to mixdown each drum sample at each velocity (there are a LOT of them) so if
anyone knows of a sampler that can load (or import, i don't mind building a
sample bank) and play back multichannel wav files with dynamic mixing and
panning of each track i would much appreciate it :)

I don't think there are any samplers under Linux that can do that...
your best bet is to probably use the samples in Hydrogen... but you
won't get any of the fancy stuff BFD provides (although you can create
velocity layers in Hydrogen).

haven't played with supercollider before. would it be very difficult to set
up like this?
maybe another option is some shell script that i can set some gain settings
on different tracks to do a batch 'mixdown' of all the velocity settings for
each drum? eg snare: 0% chan1 (bd), 100% chan2 (sn), 15% chan3 (l o/h) -
panned left, 15% chan4 (r o/h) - panned right etc and step through all the
velocity settings. then i can change the values (or edit the script) and run
it on another drum/cymbal. this would just mix down to a stereo wav file,
which wouldn't be too difficult to import into a sampler.
feasible? :)

Same goes for Csound, Chuck and Pd.
ALl of these environments use libsndfile to load samples and
alloof them have sufficient flexibility to do what the OP was
asking.
