Hi All,
I'm new to this list (and to Linux too... although heavily used to old DOS commands)
I have fitted this card from a Windows PC into a Lubuntu PC (latest build).
It looks as if the card is well recognized ("RME AIO card found" when launching
hdspmixer for example), I guess it does not work due to a routing issue.
I have 2 questions :
1 - is it compulsory to use hdsploader, even if the card is recognized ?
2 - as there is no Matrix in Alsa as there is in Totalmix under Windows, am I right
assuming the only way to do the routing is to use amixer commands like :
amixer -c 0 cset numid=5 source,output,0
(my card id is 0 as I deactivated the MB sound card) ?

HdspLoader and HdspMixer are two programs that will intereact with the RME
devices: the first provides the firmware it needs to run, the second
interacts with the device just like amixer, only provides a sane GUI :D
Basically, since the RME has a routing matrix built-in, using amixer will
provide every single control, which will be a totally horrible way to work.
Since HdspMixer provides a good way to interact with the sub-mixes, its
advised ;)

PS: I have a Multiface 2, so my experience might be slightly different to
yours with the AIO.

this is why amixer doesn't actually represent matrix controls in its
output, although you can use it to set specific matrix values if you know
how to name them.

Hi Francois,
I bought the HDSPe AIO in May 2011, after it was recommended on this
list or LAD. Until today 3 1/2 years later I never could get it working
correctly using hdspmixer on Linux. To test the sound card I installed
FreeBSD first and then Windows XP. The sound card isn't broken and I
know how to handle totalmix under Windows. However, I'm only using
Linux and so assumed you should find out how to get all 8 ADAT IOs
accessible by jackd, please let me know. On my machine only ADAT
channel 1 and 2 are available by jackd.

PS: Assumed you want to use a frequency > 48 KHz, then you first need to
select it using alsamixer, before you can start jackd.
