Hey, $60(US) gets you GP6.
Oh wow! Thats great news! I was greatly impressed when my workmate
showed me GP under windows a while back - I'm pretty certain there is
no comparable FOSS guitar teaching aid and its unlikely there will be
for some time, if ever. Keyboard players have pianobooster but GP6
will be miles ahead of any existing Linux alternative.
RMS would be ashamed of me for saying so but I for one welcome more
commercial (music) software being released for Linux, especially apps
that have no real FOSS alternative. More quality native apps for Linux
can only lead to more Linux converts and less reasons for wine,
dual-booting and Windows VMs.

Hey, I had an FB-01 in the late 80's and the beginning of 90's :-) !
I used it mainly for doubling real bass guitar on recordings and I still miss
this little box, oh, time is running..

piano sounds were better; in fact most of the "real instrument" sounds were
better than the Yamaha.
But that FB bass sound is classic 80's, particularly for hip-hop and pop. It seems
like it was forbidden to put out a record back in those days without doubling the bass
with a Yamaha FM synth of some kind.

New subject: Hans Kaper's Dissco
I came across a paper by Hans Kaper describing disco, an object oriented
system for music composition and sound design. There is some java code on
sourceforge, but I asked about the c++ code and got this reply:

We're still in the process of overhauling DISSCO's sourceforge website.
If you need the newest c++ code of DISSCO
please use svn to get it. This is currently the only way to do it.
simply execute this command in your command line:
svn co https://dissco.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/dissco/trunk dissco
The README file has a brief instruction of building the components of DISSCO
(CMOD and LASS). Feel free to email me (mchiu3(a)illinois.edu) or Andrew
Burnson (burnson2(a)illinois.edu) if you have any question about building the
program.
