Hallo,
I want do sync my old atari programs with mtn/mmc to jack.
I did some experiments with ardour rosegarden and muse. Start and stop
commandos work, but all programs don't synchronize the tempo.
Is there a program that can sync jack as slave to external mtc or midi
clock?

nope. jack-transport won't slave to anything.
The other way' round is a possibility. You can create Midi-clock or
midi-timecode from jack-transport (maybe your atari can slave to that).
Easiest way is using ardour, but there are also some commandline tools
floating around:

If you mean jackmtc, then yeah, it's labeled "prealpha," it's just
some really rough code that doesn't yet compile properly, and
definitely doesn't have its intended functionality yet. I'm hoping to
get a first release in a couple of months.

But the programs I want to use do not receive mtc/mmc they only can send
mtc.

There's "full time code" and "quarter frame messages" and IIRC a
third
option for MTC. Some do send one of those MTC options, but receive
another option.

MusE is quite good at syncing to external midi clock input.
It is guaranteed not to drift, should be rock solid no matter what you
throw at it.
It supports midi realtime and MMC commands.
But it does not sync to MTC yet.
Recently the ability to record the external tempos has been added.
Midi sync clock output on the other hand, is a bit weaker at the moment.
It should work, but sync output needs some fixing for accuracy and timing,
best results may be with the ALSA devices instead of Jack midi devices.
As the other posters say, Jack does not do syncing by itself.
It is up to the applications to do that.
Just ask if you need any help, our Sync Settings dialog may seem
a bit overwhelming.

Use Jack2 ex 1.9.8 with the alsarawmidi driver, unfortunately missing
for the Ubuntu Studio Precise package, but jack2 is easy to compile and
other distros, e.g. Arch include it.
Example: jackd --sync -Xalsarawmidi -dalsa -r48000 -p256
"alsarawmidi" is the only way on my machine to get hard real-time, aka
zero jitter, at least in the past. At the moment, perhaps regarding to
new kernels or new video drivers, my Linux are broken regarding to audio
productions.

Qtractor maybe? It can get its BPM from an external midi clock source.
It doesn't really sync though afaik.

I have tried qtraktor to use it as slave to my atari. It works, but the
synchronization of the tempo is not very good.
Another problem is that I can't recored different midi-channels to one
track at once. Qtraktor mix all midi-channels to one midi-channel.
That's not what I want. Maybe I miss something.

Hi,
I test ardour3 beta 5. to synchronize to Cubase Audio 2.06 (no crack) on
atari falcon
- ardour as master with MTC and jack, runs fine (but no song position)
- ardour as master with MTC and internal, runs out off time after a
while, but the song position work.
- ardour as slave don´t work. Ardour can be slave to the atari with midi
clock and the transporter run. But there is no sound anymore. No midi
and no audio. It's a bug?

That's not what I want. Maybe I miss something.
You would want to record to multiple tracks at once, just recording one
channel to each track. This is easier to work with anyway. SO you would
create as many tracks as you have active channels and set each track to
only see one channel from the same midi input. That way you can change the
patch or other control just for that channel without it effecting others.

I tested this a long time ago with the last version of Steinberg Cubase.
It doesn't work with most Linux apps, but IIRC it did work with at least
one app. Ardour, Rosegarden, Hydrogen or Qtractor, in one direction.
IIRC the Atari was master. No MMC, but MTC.
IIRC there are three ways MTC can sync, that's why sync not only with
Linux often fails. If MTC doesn't work, perhaps MIDI clock is ok with
your software. Another option might be to record SMPTE from the Atari to
an audio track and then run the ATARI as SMPTE slave, assumed you've got
a SMPTE interface and your Atari's software does support SMPTE.
My Cubase does support SMPTE, since you can't buy it anymore, you might
test if SMPTE also does work for cracked versions, if you shouldn't own
Cubase. The legal version I own has some features that the cracked
versions don't have, but usually cracks are stable too.
