Hi Kevin,
Hi there,
Rosegarden is my first notation program, and I like it a lot.
But, as a drummer its lack of drum clef is difficult for me. Is
there some other software which I can export to from Rosegarden
which will let me print drum sheet music?

Hmm, NoteEdit supports drum clef(s) and can import Midi and
MusicXML. I don't know if Rosegarden can export to MusicXML
as well (I didn't find anything in this regard in the menus).
NoteEdit support drum notes as well.
The screenshot on the NoteEdit homepage should show you an
examples for a drum line. See http://noteedit.berlios.de

Yes. File -> Export -> Export MusicXML file...
Rosegarden supports drum and other configurable note heads, but it
doesn't yet support drum clefs or staffs.

Oooh, oooh, oooh! You just got my attention. ;^) Can I do this
for an entire "pitch" on the staff all at once? If so, then it'd
be closer to having something look like a drum chart. I presume
that the configurable note heads can be printed just fine.

Ya know, I had a look at Lilypond's drum clef stuff. If Rosegarden
could export drum clef info to Lilypond, then it should be easier
to get a complete drum chart print-out.

Nope.
All you can do at the moment is select one or more notes and then select
Adjust -> Note Style -> and choose a note shape. The shapes are not
built-in -- they're defined in XML files in the styles directory,
documented in the Rosegarden Handbook under Customising Rosegarden.
You can define styles using any available font element or pixmap.
Setting a default shape for each pitch in a drum map would be an
excellent addition to our ongoing drum map work at the moment, though.
I should give that some thought.

Using Chris' help for selecting all of a note back in January,
I selected all (ctrl-a) and filtered (ctrl-f) until only the
"pitch" I wanted was selected. After that Adjust -> Note Style
-> shape works on all selected notes. Pretty cool!

I looked through the handbook, and I looked at the four XML files
currently used for this in RG4. Adding custom note shapes doesn't
seem all that hard. OK, the first note shape will be hard.
But, then the rest should fall like dominos, excepting anything
that might need a new pixmap. Do you have a preferred tool for
creating those? I use the GIMP and Xfig for drawing. I'm pretty
certain that some new pixmaps will be needed.

I found three sources for drum note shapes tonight, two from the
web. One is a music professor's hand written shapes. Another
is Audio Graffiti's "Guide to Drum & Percussion Notation". I've
also got a few "Modern Drummer" magazines laying about. The good
news is that all of these sources agree with each other, and they
should. They're all supposed to be taken from the definitive
guide by the Percussive Arts Society (PAS). I should buy a copy
of their guide.
