Hi,
What are the experiences with Translator Pro
http://www.chickensys.com/products/sw_iteminfo.php?sw_name=Translator+Pro ?
Afaik, it does convert to a Windows way of pointing to the path of the
sample, e.g. \ versus /. Are there tools / scripts for converting these
file to a file which works on unix?
Which sfz (conversion) tools are available?

Linuxsampler reads such paths without any problems, though you do need
to watch out for errors in file name case -- that can lead to SFZ files
that work fine on Windows, where case is ignored, but don't work on Linux.

I use chickensys translator (cakewalk edition) to translate the Battery3
format into sfz. It seems is the only one to do such translation, and
it's very buggy.
When I edit a .sfz file that has been translated from a .kt3 (NI
Battery3), I follow these steps:
# comment the opcode "name"
find . -type f -name "*.sfz" -exec sed -i 's:name=:// name=:g' {} \;
# rename the opcode "volume_group" to "volume"
find . -type f -name "*.sfz" -exec sed -i 's/volume_group/volume/g' {}
\;
# rename the opcode "pan_group" to "pan"
find . -type f -name "*.sfz" -exec sed -i 's/pan_group/pan/g' {} \;
# remove the opcode "groupIdx"
find . -type f -name "*.sfz" -exec sed -i 's/groupIdx=[^ ]* //g' {} \;
# rename the opcode "tune_group" to "tune"
find . -type f -name "*.sfz" -exec sed -i 's/tune_group/tune/g' {} \;
# lowercase
find . -name "*.kt3" -exec rename 'y/A-Z/a-z/' {} \;

I also change the relative path to absolute path.
There are bugs in the translation process of filters, eq, tune(sfz uses
transpose+tune).

I have bought Chicken Systems Translator Pro. Never again will I deal
with the chicken.
It is the most crash-prone Windows program I've ever seen sold as a
retail product. Clicking on almost anything causes it to crash hard.
Their tech support is totally useless.
I bought it because it's supposed to able to mount and work with Akai
volumes from Windows, but it's so unstable that in reality you can
hardly get any actual work done with it. This is pre-alpha software
being sold for money -- avoid!

Without really knowing what I'm doing, I tried the command displayed on

New subject: sfz convert / tools (findings)
Findings:
Sfzer and makesfz.pl are useful tools when you want to create instrument
sfz files. They give you an nice starting point.

I was able to contact the dev of sfzer and got some help.

Atm I wasn't able to contact the dev of makesfz.pl
Both tools expects that the samples are named in a certain way (C, C#
etc.). It seems that this makes these tools less valuable for drum
samples without such a naming.
For those files I think Lisalo with the -p, --percussive option is your
best starting point.

This tools is handy if you want to add velocity values, it works via
wine and mono. I didn't find a Linux native alternative yet

Good examples of SFZ files for different instruments would be nice to

I can't get Sforzando working in Wine. It says 'you sure don't like
Windows default fonts, you need some of those to run the program'

Hi there!
I just pushed a script to my github repo which allows converting Battery v1
(.kit) files into sfz:
https://github.com/danielappelt/battery_to_sfz
I tested it against a copy of Battery Studio Drums and some old, free kits
that I found on KvR. sforzando (run through festige) could load and play
the resulting files.

Regarding Translator and writing SFZ files, we would appreciate it if there
are any issues, we would be contacted. We are very happy to address any
issues but cannot if we aren't notified. I do not show any reports nor
contacs from Brent Busby nor Nicola Pandini. I have privately contacted both
parties and hopefully we can get things working for them.
Please remember that most issues are local and not global. Translator has
about 50,000 users and most AFAIK are very happy with it. We sell about 2 a
day.
Nicola, those opcodes you eliminated are all not written anymore, but
changing them to tune and volume etc. may not be accurate. Use the latest
version of Translator to get results that don't include those opcodes.
Regarding tune and transpose, we read and convert both. "transpose" is
actually coarse tune, SFZ misnames it, and we often merge it into rootkey
(what SFZ calls pitch_keycenter). Most samplers don't include a coarse tune
parameter and it is bad form and programming to use large values for coarse
tune.
Regarding filter, EQ (we actually don't convert this so I don't know what
you are referring to) and tune issues, PLEASE contact us. We have no
intention of creating issues so just contact us and such things are easily
addressed. Complaining on a public form really doesn't do anyone any good. I
have emailed you so you have somewhere to reply to us.
