Sweep 0.5.4 Development Release
-------------------------------
Sweep is a sound wave editor, and it is now also generally useful as a
flexible recording and playback tool. Inside lives a pesky little virtual
stylus called Scrubby who enjoys mixing around in your files.
This development release is available as a source tarball at:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/sweep/sweep-0.5.4.tar.gz?download
Changes since version 0.5.3 (September 5 2002) include bug fixes for
playback during destructive operations and for edits of tiny regions,
and improvements in configuration checks for libsndfile-1.0.0.
Additionally, scrubbing is now working for reverse playback, and has been
tuned for responsiveness independent of sample rate.
There is now a web page introducing Scrubby and outlining a few simple
editing and live performance techniques:
http://www.metadecks.org/software/sweep/scrub.html
Summary of library dependencies:
* GTK+ 1.2 (standard in most distributions)
* libsndfile-1.0.0, available at:
http://www.zip.com.au/~erikd/libsndfile/libsndfile-1.0.0.tar.gz
* libtdb, available in many distributions or at:
http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/tdb

Sweep is designed to be intuitive and to give you full control. It includes
almost everything you would expect in a sound editor, and then some:
* precise, vinyl like scrubbing
* looped, reverse, and pitch-controlled playback
* playback mixing of unlimited independent tracks
* looped and reverse recording
* internationalisation
* multichannel and 32 bit floating point file support
* LADSPA 1.1 effects support
* multiple views, discontinuous selections
* easy keybindings, mouse wheel zooming
* unlimited undo/redo with fully revertible edit history
* multithreaded background processing
* shaded peak/mean waveform rendering, multiple colour schemes
Help wanted! Sweep needs testing; please report any problems encountered!
Urgent development is required in the following areas: ALSA and Jack support,
updating of translations and user documentation. (NB. Sweep works fine with
ALSA under OSS emulation -- the native ALSA support needs some fixing).
Sweep is Free Software, available under the GNU General Public License.

Hi,
Autocomp is an automatic accompaniment generator for Perl and Csound,
developed on Linux. It's an attempt at a practice utility for musicians.
Freshmeat project page is here:
http://freshmeat.net/projects/autocomp/
Download it or read more here:
http://www.waz.easynet.co.uk/software.html
Currently there is only one style of output, which is a pastiche of a
'swing' style with a walking bassline. The output is heavily on the
gorgonzola side of cheesy, but it's already at a stage where you can
practice with it if you don't mind the cheese level.
All comments/suggestions etc gratefully received.
Cheers etc.,
Wayne

Biggest thing is that it now listens to changes in alsa and
automatically refreshes.
* made a nice dlopen() system for GUIs and drivers
* ladcca support
* major amounts of code cleaning up and seperating (eg apb.h -> 6 .h's:)
* bug fixes
* compilation fixes
* listens to alsa changes in a thread
* gtk gui now uses a proper toolbar with stock buttons

Hi all,
This is just an intermediate release to fix some things (and add LADCCA
support of course :)
* jack_set_server_dir is optional

ZynAddSubFX is a opensource software synthesizer for
Linux.
It is available at :
http://zynaddsubfx.sourceforge.net
or
http://sourceforge.net/projects/zynaddsubfx
News:
1.0.3 - small bugfixes: "Bypass Global Filter" from
ADnoteUI dissapears sometimes ;
removed the low amplitude noise produced by the
reverb;
if you "acconect" zynaddsubfx with aseqview no note
was processed a long time.
- added Notch Filter
- added the option to randomize the ressonance
function
- added VU-Meter
- Change the Insertion effect modes behaves (it
sounds a bit louder)
- Added to the project an external program
called Spliter that splits the
keyboard and alows you to play two instruments same
time. You can use this

-Removed linking with pthread from the vstserant program. May fix
some bugs...
-Fixed various cache problems introduced in 0.2.3. The ladspavst plugin
should hopefully work now after a recompile. Oops.

You should also delete all files in $HOME/.vstserver/cache before
running this version of the vstserver.

-Added note in the INSTALL file about a bug in the "winemaker" program
found in the 19.12.2002 release of wine, and how to fix it.

(this is mostly a bugfix release, and new fade in/out)
also, if you can make it to linux.conf.au in sunny Perth, Western Australia
in January you'll be in for some loud Scrubby action and wild partying! I'm
excited about it already :)
best wishes for the holiday season, and a rocking new year :)

The Rosegarden team have the pleasure of announcing the
latest release of their MIDI and audio sequencer and score
editor for Linux.
The source code is available now from the project homepage:
http://www.all-day-breakfast.com/rosegarden
The availability of binary packages depends on their various
maintainers; please check the project homepage for more
information.
New features since the 0.8 release include:
o Improved MIDI file I/O: better support for banks and
merging in import, better support for delay, transpose
etc in export
o MIDI device Bank and Program editor, including import
and export of Studio data
o MIDI Panic Button for clearing down stuck notes
o Added some keyboard controls to matrix
o Added real-time segment delays
o Progress display completely overhauled
o ALSA clients can be added dynamically (you can change
your soft synth configuration while Rosegarden is running)
o MIDI events filter dialog for MIDI THRU and MIDI record
o MIDI/ALSA recording bug fixed (stopping after so many
recorded events)
o Many bug fixes, tweaks and performance improvements
Unfortunately we've had to drop KDE2 support from this release
onwards as it was getting too difficult to maintain both KDE2
and KDE3 in the same development tree. We're hoping this won't
affect too many users in the long term.
Finally, we would like to thank the cachegrind/kcachegrind team
for a truly useful development tool.
Chris
VSTServer V0.2.3 - beta
------------------------
-Only cache plug-in if client-handler returns non-minus one.
-Convert plugin names to lowercase and remove trailing .dll to
avoid confusing the cache-mechanism.
k_vst~ V0.2.4 - stable
-----------------------
- Added support for VST effect/synth programs; these may now be changed
with the 'program' message and a program number. (added by acb)
See the help6 example patch.
