The first unified LV2 release, LV2 1.0.0, is out. This release merges the previous lv2core package with all the official extension packages, as well as example plugins, lv2specgen, and additional data. From a developer point of view, the biggest change is that all LV2 API headers can be used by simply checking for the single pkg-config package "lv2" (for compatibility the previous "lv2core" package is still installed). Implementations are encouraged to abandon the "copy paste headers" practice and depend on this package instead. With this release, several new extensions have become stable that together greatly increase the power of LV2: atom, log, parameters, patch, port-groups, port-props, resize-port, state, time, worker. [ANN] Praxis LIVE build:120912

Hi All, Praxis LIVE is an open-source, graphical environment for rapid development of intermedia performance tools, projections and interactive spaces. A new build of Praxis LIVE is now available for download. While this is mainly a bug fix release, it does see the Praxis command line player added to the main installation, and work which paves the way for distributing Praxis projects as standalone applications (coming separately in the next couple of weeks). Announcement: Folve, a FUSE filesystem that convolves audio files on-the-fly

Hi, I'd like to announce Folve, a FUSE filesystem that convolves audio files as they are accessed. https://github.com/hzeller/folve#readme It contains some examples to try right away. If you want to filter your audio (for effect reasons, such as adding reverbs, or just to linearize the frequency response of your speakers), but your system doesn't provide a way to do this while playing, your only option was to pre-process your audio files accordingly. This is time- and disk-consuming, and you probably wouldn't do it just for the fun of adding a reverb. Folve solves this problem: it provides the audio files readily convolved as you access them. It also provides a simple HTTP UI to switch between filters. Right now, Folve is tested with FLAC files; other audio file formats do work, but not all work well with streaming. This is the first public announcement on the announce/user list, but Folve should already pretty usable. Please report problems and feature requests through the github issue tracker. -henner

FFADO 2.1.0 released

With improved stability, many bugfixes and a large number of newly supported devices this version represents 2 years work by the small but dedicated FFADO team. Xth Sense: instrument, code, schematic, tutorial On-line now

The Xth Sense (software and hardware) is finally available on-line, get binaries, DIY documentation, and tutorials at: http://res.marcodonnarumma.com/projects/xth-sense/ The digital interface is developed in Pd on a Linux machine; there's a main software for the computation of incoming muscle sound (and virtually any sound input), and the xth-sense-lib, a collection of 120 objects (and help files) ranging from specific muscle sound methods, to everyday Pd patching needs. You can build your own and produce music with it using the sound of your muscles. It is free and open source, and it was named the “world’s most innovative new musical instrument” by the Georgia Tech Center for Music Technology (US, 2012). With the XS you can also control other software on your machine (video, audio, light systems, etc.), send Voltage output to hardware, or control a prosthetic arm.
