Hi all,
A new version of libsndfile was released just yesterday. I normally
don't announce new versions here, but this release has one new
feature which requires a bit of a special mention.
With this release, libsndfile now supports the Sound Designer II file
format as used by Apple Macintosh audio programs like Protools and
Digital Performer.
There are a couple of caveats with this format as described here:
http://www.mega-nerd.com/libsndfile/FAQ.html#Q013
I now also have a Gnu Arch (like CVS but better) repository and there
are some very brief instructions for accessing it here:
http://www.mega-nerd.com/libsndfile/development.html
I hope to expand that page in the near future.
Cheers,
Erik

I have found that good programmers either do not make the kind
of mistakes that Ada can prevent, or insert enough checks that
they catch those mistakes about as efficiently as an Ada
environment can. At that point, the use of Ada gives no further
productivity advantage.

This is a great idea, where it should be easy to make a general
library for other hosts (not necesarrily running Qt) making use
of those UI's with the help of some ipc-tricks.
The great question is: Does there exist many ladspa-ui files?
In case there are, the motivation to make such a library is quite high.
Mathias, I have CC this to the dev-list. If you answer, please
only use the dev-list.

Hi all
Is any one else having a complete system freeze running
Horgand? My setup p4 - 256 ram - slackware 10 - kernel 2.6.9. -

from within terminal session once it hits the screen my system is
completely dead - no mouse movement, etc - have to reboot.

Greetings:
I've placed on-line a song I wrote and recorded with the help of
Ardour, TiMidity, DOSemu & Seq+, a bunch of LADSPA plugins, a guitar, a
harmonica, and my dulcet-toned vocal. It's here if you'd like to check
it out:
http://linux-sound.org/ardour-songs.html
I'll be adding more pieces to the page Real Soon Now, but at least
it's a beginning... :)
Best,

Hi,
does anyone know whether there are ALSA drivers available for the
Marian UCON CX soundcard?
(for details on the card: see www.marian.de)
the card is quite new, but looks very promising, especially
considering its price.
some Marian salesman told me in May at the AES convention that someone
was working on creating linux drivers.
But as I am getting closer to actually being able to buy the card, I
would like to know whether it works already under linux or not.
sincerely,
Marije

I am working on what is called "distributed multimedia interaction", one
purpose of which is to investigate possibilities for ensemble playing
by remote parties, distributing the audio over IP networks.
A crucial point is to achieve audio transmission with very low latency.
If anyone could provide me with information on, or pointers to,
open-source software for doing this, I would be grateful. (I have
started to roll my own, but I can hardly defend duplicating work
unnecessarily.)
Other comments are of course also appreciated.
With kind regards

I am interested to use this for Wave Field Synthesis.
In the case of larger systems for that, it is necessary to distribute the
audio over a network, to process it at different computers to supply sets
of speakers with the right signals.
For this a low-latency network is necessary, and sample-synchronisity.
See my website at: http://gigant.kgw.tu-berlin.de/~baalman/
for info on the project I am working on.
sincerely,
Marije
Hello all,
here's version 2.3.5. Not too many changes, but still enough to warrant a
new release.
I also want to use this opportunity for the following:
<*****IMPORTANT NOTICE*****>
Ecasound website address has changed. The new address is
http://www.eca.cx/ecasound
This replaces the old (but still functional) website at
http://www.wakkanet.fi/~kaiv/ecasound/. Note that also all the subpages
have been modified. I've added some redirect pages, but the old site will
only be available for a limited time. Please update any links that point
to the old website.
And also, my email address has changed (see from).
</*****IMPORTANT NOTICE******>
CVS is tagged with 'v2_3_5' as usual, and here are the full details:
---
1. Summary of changes
Various Mac OS X specific build issues have been resolved. Minor
changes have been made to the OSS soundcard support to avoid
limitations of certain OSS drivers. Many minor updates have been made
to user documentation and to build system scripts.
---
2. What is Ecasound?
Ecasound is a software package designed for multitrack audio
processing. It can be used for simple tasks like audio playback,
recording and format conversions, as well as for multitrack effect
processing, mixing, recording and signal recycling. Ecasound supports
a wide range of audio inputs, outputs and effect algorithms.
Effects and audio objects can be combined in various ways, and their
parameters can be controlled by operator objects like oscillators
and MIDI-CCs. A versatile console mode user-interface is included
in the package.
Primary platform for running Ecasound is GNU/Linux. Ecasound can
also be run on many UNIX-derived systems such as FreeBSD, Mac OS X
and Solaris. Limited support for Windows is available through
Cygwin. Ecasound is licensed under the GPL. The Ecasound Control
Interface (ECI) is licensed under the LGPL.
---
3. Changes since last release
* With this version, Ecasound can now really be compiled for MacOS X.
This has been tested on various 10.3.x systems. Also JACK support
is reported to work under OS X.
* Website address has changed: http://www.eca.cx/ecasound replaces
the old http://www.wakkanet.fi/~kaiv/ecasound address. Please update
any links that point to the old address.
Full list of changes is available at
<http://www.eca.cx/ecasound/history.php>.
---
4. Interface and configuration file changes
None.
