Hi all,
Thank you all for the quick responses!
to drek holzer: thanks for the info on starting jack, it worked great! =)
to Benjamin Flemming (Benji) : You were right also! The CVS version compiled
without any problems (libhydrogen-0.8.1beta3) =) thanks!
to lee and Comix: I don't know about your suggestions:
^libtool is not installed, or is not in your path:
whereis libtool: /usr/bin/libtool
echo $PATH: /usr:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/opt/qt-3.1.2/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin
i tried running ./autogen.sh it didn't work either
Thanks all!
now I need to decide how many versions of qt I want hogging up my disk space
because hydrogen-0.8.1beta3 needs qt-3.2 I know that there is another app that is supposed to work best with 3.1.2 , and I know that hydrogen doesn't consider qt versions backwards compatable ( I tried installing 0.8.0 after I got the libs to work and it complained because qt-3.1.2 was too new! Arrrgh)
On one happy note: there isn't any noise in my system yet! =)
Thanks all

Hi.
I know this isn't the kind of thing that generally gets discussed on this
list, but it does kind of relate to linux audio.
I have an hour or so of taped conversation I need to type up. I was planning
to record it to my hard disk so I can do everything from the keyboard.
What I'd like to be able to do is set up keyboard shortcuts for rewind / pause
etc that I can use without task-switching out of the wordprocessor.
If I understand correctly one way of doing this would be to set up a global
keyboard shortcut that runs a program that sends a jack_transport message to
the audio app. If I had lots of time or a bit more experience I might be
inclined to set something like that up for the sake of my education, but I
suspect it would end up taking considerably longer than the typing itself! Is
there a simpler solution I'm missing?
If anyone has any ideas for an efficient audio-typing system I can use on
Mandrake 9.2 please let me know.
Thanks.
Hello all
Ok I'm to the next phase of my linux audio project and that is getting real
cuddly familiar with composing/tone generating stuff - soft synths,
sequencers, etc. anything that juices the first step of the creative
process
what do people like to use? reccommend? badass tutorials?
obviously, since I'm using planet ccrma I'm well on my way, but I thought
I'd ask people :)

Is there an open-source alternative to MIDI "pattern" files as used by Yamaha PSR keyboards, etc? Does ABC fit the bill? Is there a repository of ABC or other free pattern files somewhere?
If not I think somebody should start one. ( please don't answer "go for it!" .. I've already got enough on my plate :)

Ho ho ho,
I just wanted to say I hate it when release announcements are soo dry and
dreary you almost fall to tears reading them... People could atleast _try_
and add some humour to them! It's not like it's _that_ much harder...
...oh, wait... that was _my_ announcement... then it must have been you saying
that???
Ooooh, now I'm confused, I hate being confused...
/Robert :)
ps.
I just loved the road map, the future's so bright we gotta wear shades!

Hello,
I am pretty new to this. I have ardour//low latency//jack all working. I
have a few samples of drums, etc that I play around with, etc. It works
really well, etc.
What is the next step? Where can I get more samples to play with? Is there a
good program I can use to make my own samples? I tried using
SpiralSynthModular, but it crashed a lot, and I couldn't figure out how to
get anything other than a tunable buzz out of it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Hi, I'm trying audacity 1.1.1 on mandrake 9.1 with multimedia kernel and if I
try to change my output device on the preferences menu it just quits and
prints a Segmentation fault on the terminal.
I think this version is unstable, which should I get?
Thanks,
Loauc.

Okay, I know everyone has been itching for a really bad song, written in
ten minutes, and recorded in less than twenty, about the new kernel, so
here it is:
http://groundstate.ca/twopointsix.ogg
Of course this was done wholly with free software:
Mandrake cooker
kernel 2.6-test9 courtesy of Olivier Blin
audacity 1.2.0pre3
a crappy intel sound card
an expensive condenser mic
a roland Sound Canvas MIDI module and an Evolution controller
Now if only I could get my Quattro working and learn to play keys a bit
better, I would wet my pants...
