Dear ce,
Yes, you can get libsdl-gfx at:
http://www.ferzkopp.net/~aschiffler/Software/SDL_gfx-2.0/
I'll modify the configure scripts to give the websites for all dependent
packages. Thanks for your feedback.

You're diggin in, I can see. Your questions-
Cut mode works by changing the behavior of 'trigger-loop'. Trigger-loop
happens whenever you press a QWERTY key or a key on the lowest octave of a
MIDI keyboard. If there's no loop at that position, trigger-loop records a new
one. The next trigger-loop switches to play (or overdub). So trigger-loop
normally toggles your loops on-off. When you toggle them on, they start again
at the beginning.
When you turn cut mode on, loops that are already playing can be cut in and
out without restarting them-- it works like a DJ on the faders. Start some
loops playing, enable cut mode and then hit the keys of your playing loops.
I've only configured cutmode for MIDI keys, because it's expressiveness is in
mapping of note velocity to loop levels. But you could reconfigure it to work
with QWERTY keys too-- if you are willing to mess with the config file.
In the config file you'll find:
<!-- Set Trigger Volume (play volume) for Loops -->
<binding VAR_cutmode="1" midikey="*" notenum="VAR_noterange" keydown="1"
event="set-trigger-volume"
loopid="notenum+VAR_loopid_pianostart" vol="velocity/127"/>
<binding VAR_cutmode="1" midikey="*" notenum="VAR_noterange" keydown="0"
event="set-trigger-volume"
loopid="notenum+VAR_loopid_pianostart" vol="127-velocity/127"/>
These bindings modify the normal trigger-loop behavior for MIDI keys to
instead do set-trigger-volume whenever cut mode is on.
Right after these bindings you can add:
<binding VAR_cutmode="1" key="*" keysym="VAR_pckeyrange" keydown="1"
event="set-trigger-volume"
loopid="keysym+VAR_loopid_pckeystart" vol="1.0"/>
<binding VAR_cutmode="1" key="*" keysym="VAR_pckeyrange" keydown="0"
event="set-trigger-volume"
loopid="keysym+VAR_loopid_pckeystart" vol="0.0"/>
This changes the behavior of pressing QWERTY keys when cut mode is on. Now, in
cut mode, when you press a key, the trigger level is set to 100%. When you
release the key, it's set to 0%. The loops have to be playing for these
changes to work.
--
Not sure what you mean by trim loops. Do you mean how to sync up many loops
together?
--
The number next to poze is the transpose for MIDI out and FluidSynth. This
transposes all of your MIDI keys except those that are used to trigger loops.
That screen display is defined in the configuration file:
<display var="SYSTEM_midi_transpose" type="text" font="small"
title="poze " pos="0.0,0.9"/>
So it shows the value of SYSTEM_midi_transpose on screen.
--
There is no way to pan loops right now. Freewheeling currently runs all loops
mono. I recognize the limitation- it's a good idea for a future release.
--
You can't save individual loops yet- maybe a bit overspiritual, but this
feature is on the table. For now, you can stream out a master OGG of your work
by pressing print screen. Here's the config:
<!-- HELP: PrintScreen: Toggle record to disk -->
<binding key="print screen" keydown="1"
event="toggle-disk-output"/>
--
I can see that better documentation would help.
For now, I hope this helps.

Never seen that before! I'll have a look at my init code to see if I can see
what's up.

Hey list,
I wanted to compile the last ardour release 0.9-beta23 but it broke
before the end (although the previous release was compiling fine !)
nevertheless I decided to upgrade Jack to the latest cvs snapshot
0.99.44 and then I succeeded in compiling ardour after this jack update.
then I decided to compile qjackctl again with the new jack libs but
it doesn't work :-(
here is the make output error :
in src/qjackctlMainForm.ui.h:1087: error :
`jack_reset_max_delayed_usecs` undeclared (first use this function)
and I have the same error for all the jack_... functions.
I tried to add -I/usr/lib/jack -I/usr/lib -L/usr/lib/jack -L/usr/lib
in case of, but nothing work...
When I used the jackd provided by the gentoo portage, qjackctl was
compiling fine any one have met this kind of issue with qjackctl and the
cvs snapshot of jack ?
thanks
Philippe
Hi
I need to edit looppoints and save the result to a file (to be read by
csound). I looked at audacity and rezound, but can't figure out how to
edit the loop-point. Also which format should I save in for the
looppoints to be preserved?
Maybe someone also has a nice link to some tech-info on sample formats?
Thanks in advance...

hi, ive used tracktion in the past, its a
straightforward DAW that focused on having an
uncluttered GUI some of the innovations that big
sequencers like cubase are adopting now (for example
enter midi notes from the arrangement screen)... its a
bit tedious switching between screens (mixer,
arrangement, softsynths) when you only have one
monitor so tracktion has everything in one place... in
addition it doesnt have a traditional mixer: "The
design philosophy behind the interface is to make it
as simple as possible avoiding clutter or waste, so
having a mixer that duplicates functionality that's
already available somewhere else on the screen doesn't
fit very well with this"...
the funny thing it is now distributed by a well known
mixer company...
ivan.

At the fedora install cd boot-screen, write "linux xfs" instead
of just pressing return.
>Does anyone here have any
>experiences or pointers to share WRT XFS or XFS and FC2?
I just had a bad experience with FC3 nfs-exporting an XFS partition.
Very unstable. However, it only happens when exporting the filesystem
as nfs. I searched the web, and it seems like the bug is not in the
xfs filesystem, but somewhere else in the 2.6 kernel triggered by
the combination of xfs and nfs. (My "solution" to the problem was to use
reiserfs)
So please, don't be scared by my experience unless you are going to
nfs-export the partition. It should be a safe and stable filesystem.

Hi all,
This probably may seem like a trivial thing but as of late I've been
experiencing some difficulties with ardour + jack. Considering that I will
be teaching it in the upcoming weeks in my Linux & Multimedia class, this
may seem extra lame on my part :-) but nonetheless I am here to ask for some
kind assistance in this matter...
Here's the scoop on the issue:
I start jackd and everything is happy.
I start ardour and still everything is happy.
I create a session add some tracks etc. and still everything is happy.
Now, I try to press play in Ardour and nothing happens.
I press play on the qjackctl and sure enough it plays.
OK, so now I want to make Ardour master over Jackd, right? So, I go into
"Options" and there I find that timing sync says "Master" suggesting
"Ardour" is master. Below, two options are checked "Jack something (can't
remember)" and "Jack transport sync" or something like it (currently away
from my beloved Linux box).
I try unchecking that as well as any other options and nothing. I simply
cannot get Ardour to be master.
In addition I tried recording something and as soon as I press record and
play on an audio track I get:
"CRITICAL: UI request POOL OUT OF MEMORY - RECOMPILE WITH LARGER SIZE!!!"
And then... crash.
I am using Mdk 10.0 (Thac's rpms) stuff (ardour-0.9cvs041014). I also tried
10.1 (ardour beta22) on a different 10.1 Mdk machine and I got the same
errors...
Any ideas?
Any help on this issue would be highly appreciated!
Best wishes,
Ivica Ico Bukvic, composer & multimedia sculptor

I've got this really noisy audio file I'm trying to clean up, and
I was thinking, it would be really cool if I could run a clip of
the file that was just the noise(it's a recording of a discussion
for a TV broadcast, so when no one's talking, it should be
silent) and have the program output an average frequency content,
in some sort of format that another program could take it as
input and create a filter that would filter out those
frequencies. It seems like brutefir would be able to do the
latter part, but is there a way to automatically generate the
filter definition from the frequency content of a file? Is this a
feasable method of noise reduction? If it seems like it could
work, but there isn't a program to do it, I would be interested
in writing it, if anyone has any input.
Thanks!

I'm running it on 5 PogoLinux S316s (3.5TB each) and it is blazing fast and
stable.

Thanks for your suggestion, Mark. Like all jack apps, FreeWheeling can be tied
to other apps such as softsynths. I specially integrated fluidsynth because I
wanted a quick synth and the native interface to fluidsynth doesn't yet allow
easy selecting of patches across Soundfonts.
But lately there is such a profusion of great softsynths, it would be nice to
integrate support to control them. I see generic interfaces such as patch
browsers that communicate to other apps by MIDI or LASH. Then FreeWheeling
could be used as a realtime controller environment for many linux audio apps.
I think I am heading in this direction. Please let me know if there are
specific types of control you'd like to see.

Not really. Ceres3 is based on a ~10 year old fork of Ceres. Both Ceres3
and Ceres are both still being actively developed independently of each
other. They both have theire pros and cons. Generally (and probably
stupid) said, ceres is more fancy while ceres3 is more academic.
I'm thinking about renaming Ceres as Ceres4, because Ceres3 sounds
newer and better than Ceres. But if I did, Ceres4 would sounds newer
and better than Ceres3 again, which might not be true either.
(Well, to be hounest, I sometimes think Ceres3 should be named something
non-ceres though. It is a bit confusing.)
