Is there any command-line way to tell what the bit depth of a sound
file is? Sox's '-e stat' doesn't say that. /usr/bin/file only gives
the sample rate. Audacity, not command-line, tells me that my file
in question is "Mono, 44100 Hz, 32-bit float". I'd rather not have
to use Audacity on all my files to figure out which ones are 16-bit
and which ones are 32-bit. I suppose I could use sox to find out how
many samples, file to find out the sample rate, /bin/ls to determine
the size, and then calculate the bit depth.
Anyone?
Thanks....

If you use qjackctl you can connect all applications in the connectwidget. If
you use jackd on the comandline you can list all ports with jack_lsp, connect
ports with jack_connect and disconnect them with jack_disconnect

Hi,
I'm a newbie when it comes to audio and linux...
I play the guitar by myself, with the help of software like jack and
jack-rack.
The drums comes from Hydrogen.
But where can I get the bass and the electric piano on Linux?
Best regards,
Dirk
Folks,
OK, Linux synths are great. And yes, if many ways they are.
Although recently I got a M-Audio Prokeys88 and I swear the Warmpad
sound in there does not have any equivalent in richness in what I've
heard so far in Linux soft synths.
If you do have an close-sounding Linux soft synth sound, let me know,
I'd be very interested in hearing it.
That makes me tend to believe that hardware synths sounds are still
leading in quality, deepness and richness. Any other opinions ?
Cheers,
Al
hi
when I use vsthost and wineasio I set the Frames/Period to 2048 with a real
bad latency from 85.3 msec. There for I use qjackctl with two different
presets.
Normaly I use dssi-vst for vsti's with a Frames/Period 128 and latency from
5.33 msec.
some apps will launch jack if you start them with jacklaunch appname. I dont
now your apps, maby it works.

Hi guys,
I'm trying to get my audio driver working with ALSA but there's the issue of
defining the buffer size and period that I can't seem to figure out really.
I've tryed to google for some good definition of what they represent and how
they should be used with respect to the asynchroneous callback but couldn't
find too much that would help.
Would someone care to elaborate on this ?
Thanks
Marc
Is there a Linux program that will run a wav file in an endless loop?
I could use this to jam along with my own chord progressions or ripped song
and maybe one day get good enough to play with real people. maybe.
Hey,
I have jack running and finally able to run jack-rack and ams.
What I'm searching for now is some good guitar effects for jack-rack or ams etc.
Who knows where I can find those?
Thanks in advance,

Hello,
The MIDI world is new to me so forgive me if some of these questions
are kind of dumb.
My overall strategy is to get my beats, keys, and basslines down in
Seq24 using Zyn, amSynth, and Hydrogen, then send the midi tracks to
Rosegarden for addition of audio and further tweaking, then mix the
whole thing down as audio in Ardour. Does that sound about right?
1) Is it possible to send a Seq24 song track-by-track to Rosegarden?
How? I have been bouncing all the tracks to one audio track and
mixing in additional audio tracks in Ardour, but that seems like a
sub-optimal way to do it. If I could get it in Rosegarden in midi
form, then I could fine-tune the midi tracks even after recording
audio, right?
2) Where can I get additional instruments for Zyn? The ones that
come with it out of the box are OK, and it's great that you can edit
them and roll your own instruments. Right now I just want a nice
natural sounding bass, and the ones that come with Zyn are not cutting
it. Anybody know where I might find such a thing before I spend five
hair-pulling hours making my own?
3) Can Ardour be used as a midi sequencer? Is it possible to put a
midi track in Ardour or do you have to send it as audio?
Many thanks in advance.
