Hi everyone,
i have posted this on the planet ccrma list before, but i don't think it's
a distribution problem. I get xruns when using a m-audio fast track pro
usb soundcard at 44100Hz, frames/period=64 (same with 128, i need low
latency) ,periods/buffer=2 with my new laptop when i have for example
freewheeling, tapeutape and jack-rack running (xruns seem to appear when
the dsp load rises, i've got none when using tapeutape alone for example).
Some of them were related to the latest ccrma kernel, and they disappeared
with a previous one. For the other ones, i have 4 ideas :
1) latency timer :
doing lspci, all the latencies show 0 , even when i set them to antoher
value with setpci. But with dmesg, i can see that at startup they are set
to 64.
Fernando Lopez-Lezcano told me that on some hardware latency timer
couldn't be changed and that 64 could be enough actually.
(forgot to say that the usb irq isn't shared)
So it looks like i can't do anything for that.
2) rtc :
At startup i have a message from udev : Node Symlink... node /dev/rtc
already exists , link to /dev/rtc0 will not overwrite it.
3) soundcard power
The fast track pro can be powered by usb or by an external power supply.
Mine is usb powered for now. Is this a problem ?
4) rtirq
I noticed that in the rtirq script , i have these lines:
RTIRQ_NAME_LIST="rtc snd usb i8042"
RTIRQ_NON_THREADED="rtc snd"
Do they need to be changed when using a usb soundcard ?
If anyone has an idea on that...
Sorry it was quite long !!
Thanks
Flo
Ok, I have a two part question. First, is there a tool like
jack.plumbing to maintain MIDI connections. If there's not, I'd be
happy to help in the development of one. I would use QJackCtl's
patchbay feature but I need to set up and maintain these connections
quickly and would prefer to use a simple text file for connections rules
and have a daemon that maintains them.
Secondly, what is the difference between the JACK midi and the ALSA
midi. So far, I haven't seen many applications that support the JACK
MIDI. Can I communicate between ALSA MIDI applications and JACK midi
ones? If not, what is the point of adding MIDI capabilities to JACK?
Thanks in advance,
Miguel

Ah, I didn't check that. So that's why I dont see a different when I compile
it with slv2-0.5 or slv2-0.4 on my system.
The first time I use elven it start up a lot faster than it do now.
At this point, I'am not a programmer, I'am only a interresstet user, so I
would like to ask if you plan to give elven a generic Gui to enable make
settings to the effekts ?
I would realy like to see a tool like jackrack for lv2.

Hello
the log is captured with slv2-0.5.0 from svn. But there are the same result
with the slv2-0.5.0 release. I cant go back to 0.4.5 because I have allready
build ardour and the stuff from Lars against 0.5.
Okay, then I will wait for your next release, and will say Thank's a lot.
Do you plan to enable zynjacku for load effect's also ? To use it like
jackrack ? Or will it enable synth's only ?

Hello
zynjacku wont run with the new slv2-0.5.0
zynjacku
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/zynjacku", line 31, in ?
import zynjacku_c as zynjacku
ImportError: libslv2.so.6: Kann die Shared-Object-Datei nicht öffnen: Datei
oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden // cant open shared lib
When I make the link libslv2.so.6 > libslv2.so.9.0.0 I get this
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/zynjacku", line 31, in ?
import zynjacku_c as zynjacku
ImportError: /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/zynjacku_c.so: undefined symbol:
slv2_port_get_direction
So I try to rebuild zynjacku (v1 and also svn) against slv2-0.5.0 but it
failed
a log is attachment
Sorry for my bad englisch, but I realy like to use zynjacku and zyn again.

hi all,
this week I compiled Ardour 2.2 with vst support and now have to experience my already existing sessions opening without vst plugins...
It's not a catastropy as I'm only a hobby musician and can rebuild my few sessions (I mostly use ladspa anyway).
Of course it would be nice to be able to open the old sessions completely, including vst-plugins - does anyone know if there is a solution for that?
thanks

greetings!
is anyone out there successfully running the Steve Taylor's toot-audio-meter java application?
when i do:
java -jar /usr/share/java/toot/toot-audio-meter.jar
i get this error message:
Failed to load Main-Class manifest atribute from
/usr/share/java/toot/too-audio-meter.jar
thanks in advance for any clues!
alternately, if anyone knows of any other linux implementation of Bob Katz's K-system metering, that would be cool too.

miniloop is a simple live looping program. It can load a number of
stereo audio loops of equal length from the disk and loop them in sync
with each other, sending each loop to a different pair of JACK audio
outputs. These outputs are intended to be subsequently fed into an
external software mixer, such as Ardour. For live performance, you
will want to control the mixer using a MIDI control surface.
miniloop is similar in intent to Stephen Sinclair's LoopDub. I
actually created miniloop to explore some design ideas that I had
while working on LoopDub. Given that, it is appropriate to provide a
comparison between the two programs. The most important difference is
that LoopDub uses a built-in mixer, while miniloop uses an external
mixer. This means that miniloop is more flexible, but requires a more
complex software setup. Another important difference is the user
interface, which is radically different, and, I hope, somewhat easier
to use. Finally, LoopDub has many features that miniloop lacks;
miniloop is currently quite small (~500 SLOC) and quite feature-poor,
and I intend to keep it that way.
