Do you mean lashd becoming a D-Bus service? If so, do you imagine
having logfile like of jackdbus?
I think it is quite important what will be changes for users of
LASH. The things you mentioned are changes either to internal
implementation or API. IMHO, all changes should be driven by desire to
solve current problems that LASH user have (as human using the whole
thing, not as API user). Thus problems that people have with LASH should
be taken into account. Here are my problems with LASH:
* auto-launching without logfile means no proper handling of lashified
apps stdout/stderr. It should have logfile, with prefixing output of
apps.
* lash is of mercy of libjack and crashing jackd often causes lashd
kill. This is just wrong. lash should be able to restart jack, tell
jack apps that jack server is started again so they can reconnect to
jack server and finally lash can restore jack connections.
* lash should preserve at least basic properties of currently started
JACK server, such as sample rate and availability of hardware
ports. When loading session whose JACK parameters dont match, user
should be given options what to do.
* there is no export/import "tarball" (single file) functionality, to
be used for backup of sessions and transfering them between machines
* lash apps should be allowed to do "light save", with app session
referecencing files/resources external to lash. This means for
example that such lash light save should not copy ardour wav files
that are linked (not copied) to lash directory.
* lash should be able to manage not lashified apps at least to extent
of launching them and connecting their ports.
* there is no good GUI for controlling lash. probably [wm]glashctl
fixes this. lash_panel use is PITA. Usable GUI should be part of the
lash tarball. Also, X11-less operations should be still possible
(command-line or ncurses).
* lash does not preserve X11 related properties of apps, like on what
screen (dual-head) they were.
* when opening/importing session, lash should be able to either replace
current session or merge it, to allow combining several simpler
sessions into more complex ones
Things that I'm not personally interested on (I don't think they worth
but there is nothing wrong if support for them is there, unless this
makes implementation much more complicated and thus bug-prone):
* Supporting connections for things other than JACK (read ALSA seq)
* Supporting multi machine sessions (several machines in a network used
in common session).
* Creating "universal" fit-all solution that works for every single app
on every single OS and thus, not being able to it at all using
available resources. This does not mean that support for other OS-es
should be avoided intentionally. Still, I need *Linux* Audio Session
Handler, not LASH Audio Session Handler.
I plan to donate my time to fixing LASH, after I (with Juuso's and
Marc's help) finish with jackdbus (patchbay and transport control
interfaces are still mising). I'd like everybody who has problems with
current state of LASH to write them in this thread.

hello to anyone
does someone use aldrin? it seems a good software and
the main programmer's (paniq) music is very very good.
i want know if is it possible to connect aldrin with
external sofsynth or midi applications (as zynaddsubfx
or hydrogen) and if it is possible, how?
thanks in advice.

Just wanting to see if newer versions of Phasex are available, I tried:
http://sysex.net/phasex
Anyone know why the site has seemingly gone down?
It's a nice synth, and want to see if it installs on Archlinux without
problems. I do have phasex-0.11.1.tar.gz available, so can install it on
Archlinux, but where has the site gone?
Nigel.
So I've been working on getting my Axiom 49 MIDI keyboard to play nice with
ZynAddSubFX, and am having only limited success. Using this guide for
reference ( http://zynaddsubfx.sourceforge.net/doc_3.html ), I'm able to get
all the standard stuff working, but am running into a bit of a brick wall
when it comes to the NRPN section; My biggest problem is lack of
understanding, methinks - Any pointers for getting this controller to speak
NRPN for someone who doesn't even understand what coarse / fine and all of
the hex values mean?
My dream scenario would be MIDI setup similar to how amSynth works - Config
would be much more easily handled from the software as opposed to the
hardware, though from what I understand of Zyn, this isn't possible -
Correct me if I'm wrong, though!
Thanks,

I never have any clipping at the Buddy, even at 100% gain.

Hm. How do I check whether I'm overdriving my sound card inputs?
Guess the distortion is enough of a sign :)

Alright, so it's probably my sound card inputs.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Paul.

Just under the "Reverb" (light blue) part on Zyn, and on the right is an empty
combo box. Click on that, and it will open the banks window. On the top left
is a white combo box with an arrow to the right of it. Click, and hold on
that, and you will get a menu of the available sounds. Scroll down while
holding, and click on something. Synth piano for example, and you'll get a
bunch of different sounds in the banks window that you can choose from.

Which model of Yamaha keyboard is it. I have an Evolution one (usb), but
perhaps there is some control on your's that needs enabling to send midi
through the usb.
I presume you've done all of this, but just to check. Open Qjackctl, press
start to start the jack daemon. Click on "Connect", and in the Audio tab
highlight zyn on the left, and alsa_pcm on the right, and click the connect
button. Now Click the MIDI tab, or the ALSA one, if it's a later version of
Qjackctl. Your keyboard should be on the left, and Zyn on the right. Just
highlight them, and again click on connect.

Everything looks ok with your loaded sound modules above.

snd-usb-audio is needed for your keyboard, and is loaded. snd-seq-midi is
needed for creating midi connections in qjackctl. If that wasn't loaded
qjackctl would be complaining.

No problem.
