What an excellent idea, yes please :-)

Yes, vkeybd used to be kool on mandriva 2008.0 but I think there's a tk/tcl
problem now so I'm unable to compile at present. Mandiva say it's a tk's
problem. :-/
Hello:
I've been asked by Florent Berthaut, the developer of Tranches.
I'm posting to both lists just in case this problem isn't exclusive to
Ubuntu 8.04.
I just tried building Tranches in UbuntuStudio 8.04, and came up with
some errors, the first of which is below:
src/base/tranches.o: In function `__exchange_and_add':
/usr/include/c++/4.2/ext/atomicity.h:51: undefined reference to
`__sync_fetch_and_add_4'

undefined references to `__sync_fetch_and_add_4' follow
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
scons: *** [tranches] Error 1
scons: building terminated because of errors.
I contacted the developer, Florent Berthaut, and he provided this
modification for the SConstruct script:
env = Environment(CC = 'gcc',CCFLAGS ='-I/usr/include/libxml2/
-I/usr/include/lash-1.0/',LIBS=['asound','lash','pthread','xml2','sndfile','samplerate','jack'])
env.ParseConfig('fltk-config --libs --cxxflags --ldflags --use-images')
The modification yielded this error when trying to build Tranches:
In file included from src/audio/../base/tranches.h:31,
from src/audio/jackProcess.cpp:26:
src/audio/../base/../lash/lashClient.h:28:23: error: lash/lash.h: No such
file or directory

from src/audio/jackProcess.cpp:26:

declaration of 'lash_args_t' with no type
src/audio/../base/../lash/lashClient.h:46: error: expected ';' before '*'
token
src/audio/../base/../lash/lashClient.h:47: error: ISO C++ forbids
declaration of 'lash_client_t' with no type
src/audio/../base/../lash/lashClient.h:47: error: expected ';' before '*'
token
scons: *** [src/audio/jackProcess.o] Error 1
scons: building terminated because of errors.
Florent's first question was whether I had lash-dev installed: as it
turns out I did. This modfication came later...
env = Environment(CC = 'gcc',CCFLAGS ='-I/usr/include/libxml2/
',LIBS=['asound','lash','pthread','xml2','sndfile','samplerate','jack'])
env.ParseConfig('fltk-config --libs --cxxflags --ldflags --use-images')
env.ParseConfig('pkg-config --libs --cflags lash-1.0')
Tranches was built sucessfully after using this modification to
SConstruct. Florent asked that I post this to the lists for anyone
that might be having a similar problem.
Now I just have to figure out how Tranches works ..... ;)
Thanks,
Ernie

Hi
We are pleased to announce the release of RAKARRACK, guitar effects processor
software developed for the platform GNU/Linux under the GPL license.
This based on the magnificent set of effects developed by Paul Nasca
Octavian for the ZynAddSubFX synthesizer. It contains 10 effects: Linear EQ,
Compressor, Distortion, Overdrive, Echo, Chorus, Phaser, Flanger, Reverb and
Parametric EQ, also includes a tuner and a monophonic MIDI converter and
recognize MIDI control change messages for volume control and program change.
Effect parameters can be stored as presets and also manages banks up to 80
presets. The application is distributed with a bank of 80 presets of the most
varied styles. The help is available in four languages: English, Spanish,
Portuguese and French.
This software, documentation and demos is available in:
http://rakarrack.sourceforge.net
demo:
http://rakarrack.sourceforge.net/rak-128.ogg
deb packages are available at the Musix repositories (etch)
deb ftp://musix.ourproject.org/pub/musix/deb/ ./
deb ftp://musix.ourproject.org/pub/musix/deb-testing/ ./
The team RAKARRACK wants to give special thanks to Carlos Pino, demo and
presets maker, he has advised, directed, and criticized that without his
invaluable assistance this program would not have been possible. These links
lead you to their music ...

Thanks.
The rakarrack team.
I have need to record a lengthy (2+ hours) live show non-stop, stereo, and was wondering what Linux program is best at this. I've tried reading the docs and FAQs I could find, and those docs that I could find say nothing of any recording time limits, or file size limits. It's got to save in 44.1/16bit .WAV format, and run on non-jack Fedora.
I've got Audacity, but besides the fact that I don't know if it will do the length of non-stop recording, it's quirky on my laptop. Sometimes it doesn't recognize the input device, and only has one logical input device available. Other times it's fine. There is no apparent pattern to it, so I hate to trust it since I can never predict if it's going to work.
Thanks!
Al
it's really a mess that your Audacity (or something else in your audio environment) is not working reliably. I often do longer recordings (up to 4 hours) from exterior analogue sources over my USB soundcard into Audacity and it works without any problems.
Maybe you first better invest some efforts to make your Audacity working, it's worth it!
good luck
Susanne

Not supporting Linux is their choice of course, and perfectly
understandable if it's about customer support. If we're talking
developer support, it's less understandable, at least in key area's like
driver support.
The 45-days loan deal, although a nice gesture, is IMHO not sufficient
for something like FFADO, since that still does not allow for us to do
decent long-term user support and/or compatibility tests with newer
versions of the software.
The irony is that currently I have plenty of work with the
support/development of/for the current/planned set of devices, and hence
I'm not very actively pursuing additional vendor support. I seem to have
the luxury of requiring them to play by my rules if they want my time.
Might sound arrogant, but if someone else wants to go for their deal, be
my guest.

That's good, I'll see you there :).

Hi!
I've been playing with Hexer (within jack-dssi-host) feeded from seq24, and to
Ardour through jack. It works fine, and got some cool bass sounds with a funk
bass I like a lot (I love slapping).
But the editing in seq24 is really like a pain in the ass with the mouse (I
don't have a midi keyboard), it has really bad things like you have to select
from a combo box the length of the note before setting it (!!!!)... it's too
slow!
What sequencing program you recommend me instead of seq24?? I'm used to the
Hydrogen interface... are Muse or Rosegarden easy/powerful to use? do they
work also with DSSI plugins like Hexter?
This DSSI plugin could be good enough while I buy the real thing (and learn
how to play it decently).
The result of the Hexer bass experiment can be heard here:
http://virb.com/spes <----- "Exp.0x03" track ;)
I did only 2 patterns as you can hear, but sounds cool anyway :)
Jorge.
Hi there,
I asked some companies to support jacklab with hardware for testing and
probing... now m-audio lend me a nvr10 which is a firewire audio mixer
-a cool device I think. My expectation was - plug and mix. ("reported to
work" on the ffado website)
I never used an fw audio device before on Linux - and have no idea how
to get it work. gscanbus say there is an error by reading the bus...
Yes I know qjackctl -I think the prob is much deeper -or I'm blind to
find the easiest way?
Any hints?

Dear All,
This may be due to a poor googling effort, but I have spent more than an
hour searching. When I start the qsampler frontend, I get told that it
couldn't start the server. I don't understand what's going on here.
I understand that there's an lscp program that's the database server, but
I've installed that [nested] but I don't know how to tell if it's
configured/ set up properly. I would really love to get this working
before a performance next Tuesday.
Hope this is not completely inane.
On the upside, I got my Evolution MK249 USB keyboard working ootb on
Ubuntu Hardy Heron (didn't with my Gutsy setup).
God Bless
Jonty
