I'm looking for a filter for running loops through. Something where I
can do run-of-the-mill filter sweeps on audio loops. Is there such an
animal? Jack functionality would be required. Additional
functionality is always a huge plus, but basic filter sweeps are the
main thing here.

Are the sounds prereverberated or just the demo?
(Cannot listen them.)
I would like to see more turkish, arabic, and persian instrument
sound libraries which are free.
And a guide on how to sample instruments. Percussions may be easy
but flutes like Mey (Duduk) looks more difficult. I have already
decided that it would be better to have both the original recordings
and the looped (read: ruined) samples. I have used granular methods
in succesfully stretching the sounds, and some claim phase vocoder
does good job too.
I also would like to see physically modelled instruments for the
instruments such as Mey. I remember acoustics.hut.fi have
modelled Tanbur but I have not found source codes.

I normally don't announce 1.0.* releases on the lists to keep the noise
down, but I thought that I'd mention some of the fixes that have gone
into my JACK port of AZR-3 since 1.0.0 in case someone has had any
problems building it and don't know that there are newer versions
available. There are no new features so if your current copy works for
you there is no reason to upgrade.
Changelog since 1.0.0:
Version 1.0.3 (2008-05-15):
* Fixed some #include bugs that were only exposed in GCC 4.3
Version 1.0.2 (2008-01-07):
* Added compatibility code for new JACK API (>= 0.107)
Version 1.0.1 (2007-12-26):
* Fixed crashing bug reported by Sebastian Tschöpel
* Treat Note On with velocity 0 as Note Off (not sure if that is
allowed in JACK but it doesn't hurt)
* Fixed graphics bug that broke the background pixmaps for the text
box and all the knobs and drawbars
You can always get the latest release at
http://ll-plugins.nongnu.org/azr3 and the latest development code from
the Git repository:
git clone git://git.sv.gnu.org/ll-plugins/azr3-jack.git
and to update it with recent changes:
git pull
If you have been tracking the development using CVS until now you
probably want to switch to Git as the CVS repository will no longer be
updated.

Version 1.0 of jack-smf-utils can be downloaded from:
http://pin.if.uz.zgora.pl/~trasz/jack-smf-utils/jack-smf-utils-1.0.tar.gz
Jack-smf-utils is a set of two command line utilities - jack-smf-player
and jack-smf-recorder - whose purpose is to play and record MIDI streams
from/to Standard Midi Files (i.e. the files with .mid extension)
using JACK MIDI. There is also smfsh, "SMF shell", that is an interactive,
command line driven SMF files manipulation tool which started its life
as a debugging aid. And finally libsmf, C library for loading, writing
and manipulating the contents of SMF files.
http://pin.if.uz.zgora.pl/~trasz/jack-smf-utils/
API documentation for libsmf is here:
http://pin.if.uz.zgora.pl/~trasz/jack-smf-utils/doc/
There is no separate package for libsmf yet; if you need it - let me know.

If you cut off my head, what would I say? Me and my head, or me and my body?
hi
I and a friend are both having problems using Audacity to edit music files.
In my case, I am trying to edit an .ogg vorbis file, and in his case, he is
trying to edit a file that he recorded with Audacity. He is a 69 year-old
man, and I am trying to assist him over the phone, so it is kind of hard to
get complete details from him, but, fortunately, I am having the same
problem on my Gutsy install with Audacity 1.3.3-beta. Here is the exact
error message that we are getting:
Error while opening sound device. Please check the output device settings
and the project sample rate.
I have googled and found that there are a lot of problems with Gutsy getting
this error message. The suggested solutions fall into two camps, neither of
which has worked for me. The first camp is grepping for the jackd process
and killing it in the shell; the second involves making sure that you have
sound privileges (we do) and that you are using the correct sound device
(not sure how to tell about that). The helpful links on these topics are
below:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=710881https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/26900
Grepping, I get no responses to jackd at all:
cje@rb:~$ ps -e|grep jackd
cje@rb:~$ ps -A | grep jackd
cje@rb:~$ ps -A | grep jack*
cje@rb:~$ ps -A | grep jack
cje@rb:~$ ps -e > jackd_test.txt
cje@rb:~$
As you can see, I directed the grep output to a txt file, and I looked at
the txt file, and sure enough, no jackd. So that solution won't seem to
work.
With regard to the potential solution of choosing the "correct" sound
device, as suggested by the second link above, I went to
Edit > preferences > Audio I/O
and found that these are my choices: not sure which are right, and I'm not
sure I want to go messing around with settings until I know what is up:
ALSA: HDA ATI SB: ALC883 Digital (hw:0,1)
ALSA: default
ALSA: iec958
ALSA: spdif
ALSA: dmix
Thanks in advance for any help!

Which one compatible with linux (mandriva 2008.0) ?
I tried with Chaintech AV710: it works, but no luck to setup the 24bit/96kHz
to send flac music to the spdif to and external dac. Always less bits and/or
kHz.
The envy24control software supports ice1712 processor while my cards exhibits
ice1724 !
Thanks.

Hi!
I am helping to code small sound editor and we will have waveforms.
However, we need to know what constitutes too loud, aka after how much
dB we can do a cut off in waveform and putting red stage in mixer? Any
hints how everyone is dealing with this?
Already thanks for any clues,
Peter.
I was browsing through the ALSA supported devices and noticed all
of these Roland-Edirol synth units that are supported. Does anyone
have any experience with these? I'm having trouble figuring out
exactly how they function. Do they receive MIDI data and then send
audio streams to the computer through USB? Do they receive MIDI
data from the computer or from another external device? Are they
well supported? I'd like to include them in my compatible hardware
list but wish to learn more first.
