Hi all
Anyone out there who ones a Korg X50 and has tried/managed to run the
X50 Editor under Linux/wine?
I had no problem to install the software and at first it seems to run
ok. But on automatic detection of the corresponding midi-interfaces, it
hangs when checking the X50-Ports.
This is with wine-1.0rc3 and has been with versions before.
Regards,
Steffen Klein

hi
I am running 32 bit Hardy (GNOME) on a machine I call the TeraByte Beast
(tbb), but the sound is misbehaving. It is playing very low, despite the
fact that I have turned up the volume on both the applications that are
playing sound, as well as the system sound in the upper right had corner. I
can play commercial music CDs and YouTube but I cannot play my own footage
with either vlc, movie player (Totem), Mplayer, Kino, Kaffeine, or Firefox
streaming the footage from the Internet Archive. When I do attempt to play a
video, the sound is once again very low on just my own footage (.ogg and
.mpg) under those six movie players. Here is a sample of the footage that I
am talking about. Left click on the first link on the left under play /
download:
http://www.archive.org/details/e-dv034_01_heather_baker_002.ogg
I am able to hear that footage well when I watch that footage on my hard
drive under Gutsy or stream it from the Archive under Gutsy, but I am not
able to hear it well under Hardy. The volume is low under Hardy.
I have tried running the sound test in System > Preferences > sound, and
that works okay for three of the four tests there: Sound events > Sound
playback; Music and Movies > Sound playback; Audio Conferencing > Sound
playback; but the test for Audio Conferencing > Sound capture does not work
at all. All of the fields there are set for alsa.
I have tried installing gnome-alsamixer and alsamixergui as recommended in
this thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5125954&posted=1#post5125954
Two days ago, I updated Hardy, and that solved the problem. Then, the
problem spontaneously returned. I tried applying today's Hardy update, but
that did not work.
Sound capture is currently set for ALSA, and the Default Mixer Tracks is set
for HDA ATI SB.
The output of
$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/also-base
is here:
http://pastebin.ca/1039186
The output of cat /proc/asound/version is here:
cje@tbb:~$ cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.16.
Compiled on May 6 2008 for kernel 2.6.24-17-rt (SMP).
cje@tbb:~$
Thanks in advance for any help.
see ya

Hello.
I have a Boss GT-10, and I was wondering if i could use the USB port
for recording audio / midi communication.
The manual says the equipment has two different modes: one that uses
the standard "OS driver", and another one which is ASIO-compatible. It
seems that MIDI can only be used with the second one though.
I tried connecting the pedalboard to my laptop, and usb-audio hasn't reacted.
lsusb shows:
...
Bus 003 Device 007: ID 0582:00db Roland Corp.
...
Does anybody have any info on the linux-friendliness of this device?
Cheers,
Pedro
hello
i'm on a debian sid (updated), i try to use minicomputer synth, but i
can't;
1) i can't hear any sounds, also if i increase any knoobs;
2) i can't load presets (for some tests): i click on "import sound", i
choose "minicomputerMulti.txt" (or others) but nothing happens.
what can i do?

Where in the world did you get that information from? SIP is as
non-free and proprietary as http (i.e., it's not).

Hi,
Any ideas how to get Freecycle working with Ubuntu or Debian? Built from
repos; I can't get any sound. I've seen an unresolved post where someone
got no sound with Jack, and Freecycle is reported to not work with
the latest version of Alsa, (I tried it with Jack 0.109 without success
-- didn't show up in Jack). The display works fine; functionally it seems
ok apart from jack-all sound.
Would really love to use this as it seems to have some great features not
available elsewhere, and wot I need.
God Bless

I apologise if this has been mailed before but I thought I should share.
Cool thing. Downside is that it requires Flash. Another downside is that on
Linux, at least on my system, the other flash objects linking to more tests
(rhtyhm, pitch etc) don't work. Anyway, the main one is fine.
My advice is to not take it seriously (relax, just go with the flow). That
way the result is more accurate (and natural) since in real situations we
won't be analysing every tune real-time.
One that hasn't been mentioned so far, non-free firmware (I believe)
but making use of the armel debian repos: Titchy Mobile on the HTC
Universal. (Yep! Debian on a phone!)
http://wiki.neilandtheresa.co.uk/Titchy_Mobile
which can make calls and send sms from the commandline, and receive
them via a whiptail dialog interface.
You can run X, and ppp over gprs/umts is also supported, according
the wiki
Wifi used to work, is now unstable, but will probably be fixed sometime.
Definitely an alpha environment, but fun! It's a sort of un-sponsored,
in-the-teeth-of-the-manufacturers effort. The handset is clunky and
unfashionably huge, but with a unique swivel-screen arrangement that
might tweak your tech-toy neurons :)
There are other linux images available for the Universal including qtopia,
http://linuxtogo.org/~htcpxa/htcuniversal/index.html
but development has severely slowed there.

I think I was the only one which got this message, but some interesting
suggestions, and I like comments of others...
People who has experience with the suggested mixers?
People who has experience or a opinion about the ART TUBE MPs?
