I use vstsdk2.3 to build jucetice stuff, and it has the file:
2179 05-14-03 10:53 vstsdk2.3/source/common/AEffEditor.hpp

Sure. we went through great pains to make sure they worked. Watch out
for DKMS. (http://linux.dell.com/projects.shtml) It should help the use
of proprietary (or otherwise) drivers and kernels. I have to look into
it a bit still.

Hi
Yesterday I stumbled upon http://www.anticore.org/jucetice/?page_id=8. I
was surprised to find zynaddsubfx there, but unfortunately it doesn't
work. The problem is that the plugin doesn't get it's UI drawn, instead
there appears a window about the right size but it gets filled with some
of the hosts UI. There are at least one other plugin from that page that
behaves like this.
What could be the cause for this? I can think of several possibilities:
1) Problems with the host's (energyXT2) graphical rendering.
2) In compatibility between the plugin and some graphical lib on my
machine. I tried to compile the plugin but it failed. I then downloaded
the vst_sdk(version 2.3, 2.4 and 3) from steinberg and made the
compilation run a bit further by copying the missing files. Now it stops at:
make[2]: Entering directory
`/home/atte/eXT2/plugins/instruments/new/zynaddsubfx/src/Output'
make[2]: *** No rule to make target
`../../vstsdk2/source/common/AEffEditor.hpp', needed by
`VSTaudiooutput.o'. Stop.
make[2]: Leaving directory
`/home/atte/eXT2/plugins/instruments/new/zynaddsubfx/src/Output'
make[1]: *** [Output] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory
`/home/atte/eXT2/plugins/instruments/new/zynaddsubfx/src'
make: *** [all] Error 2
The file AEffEditor.hpp is nowhere to be found inside the sdk's I
downloaded, I suspect it's because it's from an older version, in any
case how do I proceed with compiling zynaddsubfx as a vst plugin?
3) Problems related to compiz/accel/X on my machine. I've seen this
before: some program doesn't like to be run under compiz and have flakey
redrawing. How can I run a non accelerated xorg (to see if this fixes
the problem)? I mean simply selecting "None" under
preferences->appearence->visual effects (gnome) wouldn't really disable
accelerated rendering, would it? And with the new ubuntu (and this new
laptop) I don't see any mention of acceleration in xorg.conf
Any input including similar experiences and suggestions are appreciated!

I just installed Fedora 9 but I am having trouble getting
JACK configured properly. The only way I can get jack to
start without failing is by using the 'dummy' driver. But
I cannot get sound out of the computer (even though ardour
is working properly and playing) or any sound into the
computer. Is this 'dummy' driver an actual driver?
I had it woring excellent in Fedora 8 but in my absent
mindedness did not write down how it was configured. I do
believe I was using alsa though. Do I need to set the
path to the driver, it just says 'jackd' now?
If someone could answer my questions or at least point me
to a resource I would be very thankful.
Greg.
Greetings,
Recently I decided to learn some well-known rock guitar solos
note-for-note, with the assistance of some Linux sound and music
software. Naturally I used Audacity to learn the solos exactly (Change
Tempo is just toot sweet), but I wanted to work on the sound of the
solos as well their notes. I found some nicely arranged MIDI files for
some of the tunes, I used Rakarrack for the effects, and I used
AlsaPlayer to play the audio files (where I couldn't find MIDI
arrangements). Great instructive fun.
I've worked out the solos to Cream's Badge and to Dire Straits' Sultans
Of Swing, now I'm on to Joe Perry's leads in Aerosmith's Walk This Way.
Yeh, pretty old school, but still great solos. It's excellent exercise
too, keeps me from getting bored. Sometimes Bach just doesn't rock
enough... :)
I've also been sequencing a pseudo techno demo, again using only Linux
audio softsynths, including AMS, QSynth, LinuxSampler (with sounds from
the PSIndustrializer synth), and the new Discovery VSTi (in JOST), with
help from the midirgui MIDI channel router and the mighty JACK. I'll
post the results when it's done.
Anyway, not to get all weepy here, but I wanted to take a moment to give
some thanks to the developers who make it all possible. So, thanks,
devs, your generosity is deeply appreciated.
Back to the rack...
Best,
dp
This is a maintenance release, trying to solve the performance problems
reported by some people for the first public release announced last week.
Thank you very much for your comments!
Virtual MIDI Piano Keyboard is a MIDI event generator and receiver. It doesn't
produce any sound by itself, but can be used to drive a MIDI synthesizer
(either hardware or software, internal or external). You can use the
computer's keyboard to play MIDI notes, and also the mouse. You can use the
Virtual MIDI Piano Keyboard to display the played MIDI notes from another
instrument or MIDI file player.
Changelog:
2008-09-05 0.1.1
* Bugfix: crash at startup when no MIDI input devices were available.
* Changed default key bindings map: the new default one is equal to
Impulse Tracker and other programs. More keys are mapped now.
* Several optimizations in keyboard handling code and display updates.
2008-08-31 0.1.0
* First public release

Hello!
This is for all the english-mothertongued lads, mates and even guys here: Do
you really say "Holzfaellersteak"? Or do you dos the English lingua emancipate
itself here and has its own word?
I know it's silly, but I just tried to look it up and didn't find anything
else. Besides it's to hilarious, a meal called "lumberjack steak", not havng
an English translation. Oh all the poor Germans, who don't know th and English
r, who think this was born in canada or the woods of Maine. :-)
Kindest regards
Julien

Very little has progressed since the last thread here. Really. New features
and fixes have gone into nted and denemo but do a song on them?
Here's the score, he he:
mscore -- promises to be the opensource Sibelius. Great program, somewhat
funny but very usable UI. I have not succeeded in doing a song start to finish
on this goody. Will hang up the system at some point and big-red-switch time.
I can import musicXML and edit from there. The program will not save chord
symbols on scores imported from musicXML (which apparently does not support
them, but mscore certain works fine with chord symbols otherwise!).
Denemo --The lilipond front-end finally has a useful feature set.
Many of the newer programs force upon the user too much "theory." Partial
measures, i.e. starting on the upbeat, are a common enough device in music.
Mscore makes one select the lead measure and set its length property. Notedit,
sinply place the bar! Denemo? A future incarnation, I suppose. Denemo will not
import lilipond files from noteedit.
Nted -- one successor to noteedit. Has similar limitations as denemo.
Canorus -- one successor to notdedit. Heard of this lately? Last version was
nowheres near ready to play.
Rosegarden -- has been around a while. I could not get into scoring with it.
Same idea of too much imposed "theory." Unfortunately, is segfaults out right
now so can do no more with it.
Noteedit -- old, no longer developed or supported -- but with its hoky-poky
interface, still easier for select and click note entry than any of the others
and gets the job done, period.
Noteedit Auto-adds measures as needed but lets one edit as one pleases
including partial measures. (I guess the paradigm in ALL the other programs of
presenting rest-filled-out measures all the time is what I do not like about
them.) If lead-sheet chord symbol entry were more convenient, I might look
nowhere else. Exports to lilypond (not 100% correctly but usually prints OK),
musicXML, abc, musixTEX and MIDI which will get you into most other programs.
I wish the successors would import its files directly--if they claim to be
successors, this would make some sense!
OT-aside: What does rosegarden (and noteedit) need with KDE? QT would
certainly be sufficient, and not dealing with KDE's excess baggage might solve
a lot of the crashing problems. I run KDE3 and KDE4 all the time, love 'em,
but requiring its libraries for these programs makes little sense.
I'm in a bit of a pickle lately and I was hoping for some advice. I'm
currently in a situation where I have access to a computer but not
from my laptop that I want Linux on.
I'm used to using Fedora Core 3 with Planet CCRMA, however that is
completely impossible without having an Internet connection seeing as
how everything is managed using yum or apt. I've tried Dynebolic on
my laptop and it completely sucked, the sound card didn't work
properly. I just tried Ubuntu 8.04 and it worked beautifully, then I
found Ubuntu Studio which is based on 8.04, however it's only
available in DVD format and I don't have a DVD burner on the computer
that has access.
Before I get the answer I'm expecting I'll say that I cannot put the
laptop on the same network as the computer that has access, that is
not allowed where I'm at. Is there a way to download the ISO file and
run it from a USB Flash drive?
Or any other suggestions, such as better CD based distributions?
