Thanks, Mark. Yes, I have it and have read it. I think my problem is
more basic: If I'm correct, I should see the Link light activated. It's
not, and I'm pretty sure I'm missing a step or two in the configuration.
I'll keep working with it.
Best,

Greetings,
Is anyone on these lists using a Frontier Tranzport with Ardour 2.7.1 ?
If so, how did you set it up, under which distro, kernel, etc. ?
TIA,
dp

Interesting. What would you suggest instead?

Csound 'PySys_SetArgv' Remote Command Execution Vulnerability
BugTraq ID: 33446
Remote: Yes
Last Updated: 2009-01-28
Relevant URL: http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/33446
Summary:
Csound is prone to a remote command-execution vulnerability.
An attacker could exploit this issue by enticing an unsuspecting
victim to execute the vulnerable application in a directory
containing a malicious Python file. A successful exploit will
allow arbitrary Python commands to run with the privileges of
the currently logged-in user.

I've done a bit of googling, but can't seem to find or understand
information about linux (audio and vid specific, for example writing for
film) and multicore, multi processors.
Example being a Mobo that supports quadcore/ 4 cpu. (Tyan)
Anyone using one of these monsters for audio/video, with linux?
If so, what's the performance/compatibility like? Driver/module issues,
things not working, etc..
Alex.
anyone can give me information about how i can debug the driver for my
usb edirol ua-20 ?(that not works in advanced mode...sigh sob)
i have downloaded the kernel source and locked in sound/usb
any examples about how to debug/develop usb linux drivers???
Please I need it!!!!!

Hi there,
I'd like to build a new DAW in the next 2 weeks. Budget is tight
and so I have chosen the following components to buy:
CPU:
• AMD Athlon X2 7750 Black Edition (K10 - Kuma core), 2x 2.70GHz, boxed
AD775ZWCGHBOX - €68,21
Cooler:
• Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro PWM - €16,65
• http://www.arctic-cooling.com/cpu2.php?idx=80&data=1&disc=
Mainboard:
• Asrock AOD790GX/128M AMD790GX - €84,03
• http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=AOD790GX/128M
Memory:
• 2x2048MB Kit OCZ Platinum XTC 1066MHz CL5 - €44,87
•
http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr2_pc2_8500_platinum_sli…
Power Supply:
• RASURBO GaminX & Power GAP565 - 550 Watt - €43,95
• http://www.rasurbo.de/netzteil_gap565.html
Any thoughts on this? What I'd like to know the most is, how does the AMD790GX
perform under Linux? Is it fully supported (chipset, graphics [very important],
Which kernel would I need at least?
Does anybody here use an AMD790GX board? Are you happy with it? Any known problems?
I'd be really grateful for any thoughts, experience, info, whatever.
Greets,
Raphael ;)

Okay, so after continuing my search for a solution I can across someone with
a similar problem that ended up being cause by a bug in a effects
plugin(freeverb). I had about 10 plugins in my project and I narrowed it
down to the one causing the problem! TAP Equalizer. I don't know what the
actually problem is, but it causes ardour/jack to fall apart. Upon checking
out the website for TAP it looks like development has been dead since 2004
so I don't know if it will be fixed.
Ardour Rocks. Case closed.

i agree that the proximity effect of, say, an U87 in cardioid setting is
not usable in the same way than that of an sm58. for one, it would pop
like mad :)
but that's due to the size and sensitivity of the capsule, the built-in
foam (or lack thereof) and the robustness of the suspension.
if you take a directional condenser optimized for hand-held (neumann has
a veery nice hypercardioid, i forget the model number, or take some of
the offerings by beyerdynamic or sennheiser), you will find that it can
be used in much the same way than an sm58, although sibilance will
become a problem, simply because those mikes are way more linear in the
treble range and more sensitive. another downside of the neumann is that
it's quite prone to handling noises
otoh, no true omni will display a significant proximity effect.
in short: i can assure you that it's only the pickup pattern :)
but in actual practice you are of course right, other factors come into
play, and nobody in their right mind would use a hand-held large
diaphragm like a TLM for a dynamic vocal performance (unless money was
utterly not an issue, and even then it would probably suck)
best,
jörn
