Hi
I managed to install the ati-radeon driver on my realtime-kernel driven system.
( Debian GNU/Linux, 2.6.31-rt11 )
For your information, here is how I did.
I downloaded the linux driver from:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
This information applys to
"ATI Radeon HD 3xxx Series" only, but other drivers might require
likewise changes.
Installer used: ati-driver-installer-9-10-x86.x86_64.run
---------
1. Start the installer. But don't continue. This will extract the
…
[View More]installer-files to the current directory.
2. Open a new terminal, change to the extracted directory (called
something as fglrx-install.08df92 ).
3. CHANGE THE FILE: firegl_public.c in
install/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/firegl_public.c
(and maybe: common/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/firegl_public.c )
AS FOLLOWS:
THIS (LINE ~ 1028):
for (i = 0; i < __KE_MAX_SPINLOCKS; i++)
dev->spinlock[i] = SPIN_LOCK_UNLOCKED;
CHANGES TO:
for (i = 0; i < __KE_MAX_SPINLOCKS; i++)
DEFINE_SPINLOCK( dev->spinlock[i] );
THIS (LINE ~ 5001):
init_MUTEX(&(mutex_obj->mutex));
CHANGES TO:
semaphore_init( &(mutex_obj->mutex) );
4. go back to the installation terminal, continue and finish the installation.
good luck.

Another suggestion for all you talented linux-using musicians and
composers: please consider making an entry on LAM http://lam.fugal.net
linking to your work. ( I know some of you do already: Will, Tapani, Ken.)
It only takes a minute, and it makes much easier for people to find your
work, especially after some time has passed. Plus we end up with a
public repository of our best efforts.
all the best, G.
All,
There is seemingly a problem with having loud audio on Fedora 11
x86_64 on a recent ASUS mainboard using the Nvidia audio interface. The
Nvidia app has all volume controls set to 11 so to speak, and the audio
hardware volume knob all set to the max but still, no loud noise.
alsamixer will only return 1 control, which is set to 100 and kmix will
seemingly not start. Of course, PulseAudio is in full force. This
also affects Qsynth and Zyn outputs when jackd is running.
Is this a …
[View More]known problem or is it local to that machine ?
Thanks.

Hi
I'm having trouble opening a few aiff files, that were send to me by
someone. They were originally part of a recording session in (I think)
protools on a mac. Probably they were saved to CDR and handed over to
the windows user that has mailed them to me. They are longish bounces of
vocal takes.
Anyways, the problem is that they open different each time. Sometimes
the first part is missing, sometimes the last part. I tried opening them
in both mhwaveedit and Renoise. The sender …
[View More]checked and the files have
exactly the correct content on her computer.
What could be the problem here? Is it in fact something else that I
didn't think of that is at play?
I don't know about renoise, but isn't it so that almost every audio app
is using libsndfile for opening/converting-from aiff files? So I should
expect similar results in all apps, or?
Is there a way to check the problematic files to get closer to the
problem? Is there a conversion I should try (tried my a2wav script that
uses mplayer, still some parts missing).
NB: This is with a super-fresh install of ubuntu 9.10

Well, it's the season of music presenting I guess, so here's my bit:
http://mastoridis.co.uk/temp/linux/Anticipating.ogg
Anticipating a simple tune with a few challenges set.
1. To make a v simple chord progression interesting for 3 mins
2. To start the collaboration with Richard Miles. Richard is a colleague of
mine and a science teacher. Last year he discovered his amazing talent for
poetry and already wrote 15 samizdat (self-published) poetry books. I sent
him the basic idea, and he …
[View More]returned the lyrics, basically;-]
3. To further learn the art of final production on Linux Audio. This time
using the wonderful Linux DSP suite on AVLinux - particulary the Valve
Compressor and the Graphic Eq while mastering. The vocals and bouzouki use
the Linux DSP Reverb as well.
Critical comments (deserved) and praises (undeserved) are welcomed.

Hi
I'm using vlc to play audio through jack, and although it seems to have
been working in the past, it's not really at the moment. The problem is
that vlc is not connecting to jack and I can't make a rule in the
patchbay, since vlc appends the process number to the jack client name.
Any solutions or ideas?

Amazing! Eureka etc. Thanks very much indeed, Frank. I've put about 15
hours into this problem and you've solved it. Now the question is, how
did a bad asound.state file get created as a …
[View More]default during
installation? Does anyone know where I should go to alert someone who
can look at this?
Here is a comparison of the good and bad asound.state files.
The replacement asound.state file has 227 controls vs 216 for the oroginal.
The following 14 switch controls existed only in the good file.
The Master Playback Switch only existed in the good file. If it exists
on the sound card and is muted by default, there would be no sound output.
There are 3 possible duplicated controls.
