My disk image wouldn't be too useful; I've got it customized for me and it's missing things that other people probably want (like GNOME and KDE).
What might be more useful-- and easier-- is if I were to give you the Debian package of my patched kernel, which I'd definitely be willing to post, no torrent required (it's not that big), along with packages of my pre-built modules.
If you want an EEE softsynth in a hurry, the coarse HOWTO is:
- Install Debian-EEE (http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEeePC/HowTo/Install)
- Set it up the way YOU want (install packages you like/want/need)
- Download my compiled RT kernel and pre-built Ethernet/Wifi modules
- ???
- Profit!
If you feel like hosting it, I can send you the packages you'd need to make available to help others turn EEE's into Linux softsynths too.
The Right Way to do this would be to set up a Debian Repository (http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/repository-howto/repository-howto.en.html). Then, users would just need to add a line to their /etc/apt/sources.list, do an apt-get update, and install a few packages. You're welcome to do that if you like; I'll send you all the packages I make, so they can be shared with others.

I'm trying to set up my USB MIDI keyboard so that it will play through
a synthesizer with a reasonable harpsichord (or for present purposes,
lute) sound and also use tuning tables such as the ones from scala for
meantone tuning.
Running scala itself on my Ubuntu Intrepid system is problematic, and
I haven't gotten it to actually make any sounds yet. Almost
everything I try hangs without giving me a useful error message.
I can run qsynth with a .sf2 font from hammersound.com and get a
pretty good harpsichord sound, but I don't know how to alter the
tuning.
I can run zynaddsubfx with a .scl tuning table loaded, but the plucked
string sounds that come with zynaddsubfx aren't anything like as good
as the harpsichord soundfonts.
Has anyone solved anything like this problem?

There is a law that no formal fromework of an organisation, or a

A new version of QJackMMC / JackCtlMMC has been released today,
sporting the new ability to select a device ID, a new help system, and
several bug fixes. If you have a MIDI device capable of sending Midi
Machine Code commands, you can use QJackMMC / JackCtlMMC to control
all your JACK-based programs with your external hardware, or even
internal ALSA programs that emit MMC.
The website is here: http://jackctlmmc.sourceforge.net/
The new features include:
- Added device ID support (formerly listened to ID 7f only)
- Added Help->About and Help->What's This
- Made the makefile more robust for easier building
- Fixed Lash startup bug
- Fixed Jack disconnect bug
Enjoy,

Hi,
My band Aide Auditive will make a concert on the KKWNE Radio tonight at 7:pm
UTC (8:pm for paris).
For this concert we invited Arboreal to improvise with us, and we made it
via *netjack*.
Aide Auditive plays some improvised electronic music.
This was a really good experience to play through internet, and I have to
admit that it works great !
Configuration :
1 laptop with gentoo + pure data.
1 laptop with Debian + pure data
1 desktop with Ubuntu studio + tapeutape, jack-rack, seq24.
Please follow the link if you want to listen our set :

Hi all,
I'd like to experiment with LASH, toward incorporating LASH
client functionality into Nama.
I could use a little help getting LASH to compile,
Lash-audio.org seems to be down. Perhaps someone here
knows what to do.
After some fiddling under my debian/sid distribution, I
start with configure thusly:
XML_LIBS=/usr/lib JACK_LIBS=/usr/lib READLINE_LIBS=/usr/lib/libreadline.so
JACK_CFLAGS=-I/usr/include ./configure
(Configure and its brethren seem to expect to find libs and
includes under /usr/local.)
Right now the problem is in compiling simple_client.c:
gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I../.. -I../.. /usr/include/ -I/usr/include/alsa -g -O2 -MT lash_simple_client-simple_client.o -MD -MP -MF .deps/lash_simple_client-simple_client.Tpo -c -o lash_simple_client-simple_client.o `test -f 'simple_client.c' || echo './'`simple_client.c
simple_client.c: In function 'main':
simple_client.c:95: error: 'JackNullOption' undeclared (first use in this function)
I see JackNullOption is defined in /usr/include/jack/types.h,
so I tried adding this line to simple_client.c:
#include <jack/types.h>
and later
#include </usr/include/jack/types.h>
Still getting the same error.
Could there be a JACK version problem? LASH expects
jack_version > 0.99, but the latest JACK I have is 0.116.
I had just hacked that part:
MISSING_REQUIRED=" JACK >= 0.1"
Any suggestions or explanations by the C-savvy would be welcome.

Hi list,
I'm currently trying to get OpenMusic working on ArchLinux, without the
tiniest success. I´d really like to know if anyone has this running
currently...
Did anyone get MidiShare to build and work on a 2.6.1x kernel?
Did anyone get so far to use OpenMusic on linux in recent times?
MidiShare btw bails out with this:
hb@okcomputer:~/temp/midishare-1.91-linux2.6-src/src/linux$ make
make -C ../common

Shouldn't be too hard to fix this error but I'm currently not really
sure if it's really worth it considering newer versions are MacOS only
and v5.2.1 has yet some other rather uncommon dependencies...
Btw: Are there any alternatives? I found pwgl
(http://www2.siba.fi/PWGL/pwgl.html) but that's windows/mac only...
Cheers,
Holger

Hi.
I have an eeepc.
Would you have any interest in providing a torrent or regular download
of a disk image of your running system? (minus your home directory and
any incriminating details in /etc of course). I don't think it would
be a huge amount of work on your part, and it would save me and many
other people with eeepcs a huge amount of work (the extent of which
you should be well aware of since you just went through it).
If you made a torrent I would promise to leave it continuously seeding
for a long time.
Maybe it would be more complicated to do this than I am imagining, so
second best would be a nice detailed howto with all the downloads and
hand configurations etc. mapped out.

Hi,
In the spirit of organizing a well executed Awards ceremony and due to
lack of interest from the business community in sponsoring the inaugural
Linux Audio Awards for 2009 I have decided to withdraw from organising
the event and will postpone the inaugural event to the next Linux Audio
Conference in 2010.
Hopefully conditions will be more suitable for sponsors to get involved
next year.
Cheers.

Hello all,
Some quick LAC2009 news.
The LAC2009 website now has some info on
travelling to and staying in Parma.
<http://lac.linuxaudio.org/2009/>
In the bed & breakfast category there is
one more which will be added soon:
DUCALE, Via Costituente 11, 43100 Parma
<http://digilander.libero.it/bbducale/>
If you look at the map on this website
(click on the foto), the CdM is very
near to the place marked 'Duomo'.
10-15 min from the conference site,
depending on your walking speed.
La Casa della Musica on Google maps:

O tu, che porte, correndo si ?
E guerra e morte !
hi...
i just wanted to anounce that i finally got round to
do some work on the good old fst.
Fixed most cavaets, included the vestige header.
So this is GPL stuff now. binary packages welcome.
get it via git: git clone git://repo.or.cz/fst.git
the homepage: http://www.joebutton.co.uk/fst/
perhaps some of he info is still valid :S
-----------------------------------------------------------
Its only a matter of make if your on 32bit.
for lash suport:
make -f Makefile.lash
On 64bit you need to have some 32bit libraries:
gtk libs and alsa, perhaps a 32bit lash
you also need to make sure a link ending with .so
exists for each library. there were some problems
with that before.
Also on 64bit jack-0.116.0 is required because fst is
a 32bit client.
i hope for packagers to jump in on this fast.
so that people are not having to wade through 32bit dependency hell.
The current version in git is very likely to become
fst-1.11 (schnaps is better than wine)
Due to the fact that the embeding and gtk bugging is fixed now,
i have a gtk window around the plugin now, where i can put buttons
and stuff. So midi learn and stuff is not far away anymore.
jack-midi is planned, and should show up in the git soon.
But this is orthogonal to the "hunt me down not working plugins"
request.
well... blabla... try to find a plug that does not work !!!
