Hello, this is my first post on the linux-audio-user list. Since 2005 I'm around linux audio and I met such a problem at first time. Audio playback from the Internet, HDD, USB stick is OK. However: ordinary audio CD plays OK first 16 seconds, then 7 seconds no audio, from 23 sec. plays some seconds again then stops for some seconds and so on. The same with Sound Juicer and Rhythmbox. System: Dell Latitude E5400, C2D P8600, 4 GB RAM, Ubuntustudio 9.04, Linux kernel 2.6.28-15-generic. I saw a bug report in launchpad.net already, however no solution yet. [LAU] [ANN] Invada Studio LV2 Plugins 1.2.0

This release contains a new plugin, 'Meters', which features Peak, VU, Phase & Spectrograph meters. There is no right value for this, it really depends on the music, so just pick whatever value that causes the VU to spend most of it's time between +/- 3dB. [LAU] Wah update

Just a quick update on the wah research. A friend owns a Dunlop "Jimi Hendrix Wah", which says it is the "Original Thomas Design", by which I assume they mean to claim it's the same design as the Thomas Organ Wah, formerly Vox. This website's describes the frequency response as a lowpass with a resonant peak: http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/wahpedl/wahped.htm So here is what JAPA says it does (and I believe JAPA more than some random website): When fully closed, it's a bandpass, with a VERY high Q! http://restivo.org/misc/lowend-jimi.png But, wait, when I open it up, suddenly it becomes more like a highpass, but with a lot of resonance: http://restivo.org/misc/midrange-jimi.png When it's fully opened, it's definitely a highpass, but with a helluva peak: http://restivo.org/misc/high-jimi.png So, not only is the opposite of what that article says, but it's also kind of non-linear. I'll poke around the various LADSPA plugins and see if I can find something nearly like this. Another guitar-player friend has a different wah (IIRC, either a "Cry Baby", or a Morley), and I'll see if I can run his through this and see what it comes up looking like. -ken

[LAU] Simple, fast, easy notation software?

I'm looking for a simple, fast, easy notation software. The goal is that I can very quickly input a melody line or riff, maybe overlay chord symbols on it, when learning new songs or writing them, so that I don't forget them. Something where I could scribble down "Fake Book"-style charts. Of course there's pencil and paper, but then I have to deal with a music stand and shuffling leaves of paper around. Since I have the laptop sitting in front of me anyway, if I had all my charts in there, I could just page through them, use find to search for them, etc. Rosegarden and the lilypond stuff is probably way too much overkill. It's not critical that it have MIDI in/out either, since the output device is going to be eyes-brain-fingers anyway. denemo confused me way too much; couldn't figure out how to do basic stuff in it at all. I've played around with nted, and it seems the easiest and closest to what I want, but even it tries to be too "smart" and sticks in things like dotted rests and stuff where I don't want them, and I can't figure out how to move notes in time once it decides to put them there-- frustrating. Any other options? Again, the typical usage is that a bandleader will sing or show me the melody and I need to note it down very quickly. -ken

hi all, In between smashing flies that came sitting on my hands while typing, and taking cold showers (we have some heath wave here) I wrote an auto-wah LADSPA plugin.
