I just realised there is a multi-processor version of JACK called jackdmp.
I'm using jackd 0.116 from the debian repos on a dual core amd64 box.
Do I need/should I be using something else? I can't find jackdmp in the sid repos I use.
TIA
Norv

Hi Hermann,
Thanks for your reply, just checking:
> jackdmp isn't in sid, you need to build it by your self. Best way (for
> sid) to switch to jackdmp is to build a dummy(empty) package from jack1,
So I get the equivs package and build a dummy jackd using equivs-control and equivs build
(as in this blog http://blog.andrewbeacock.com/2005/09/creating-dummy-debian-package-for.html )
and call it, say, version 1.0, which is way higher than 0.116
> use a high version number for it, replace your jack1 installation with
and install it with dpkg
> it, and then install jackdmp.
And get jackdmp, build it from source, and install it (do I have to make a .deb of jackdmp and install with dpkg?)

I'm trying to squeeze the last little bit of juice out of my EEE.
The CPU I have is this:
http://restivo.org/projects/eee/cpu.txt
This nifty script at http://www.pixelbeat.org/scripts/gcccpuopt , says I should use "-march=core2 -mtune=pentium -mfpmath=sse"
However, the Gentoo people (who I take to be an -funrollloops authority on performance tuning), say I should "-march=core2 -mtune=generic -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe".
And then there is -march=native which many say is just easier and faster. And others recommend putting "-msse2" and other such things.
What say you-all?
I want to maximize the efficiency of, in particular, LinuxSampler, CALF/CAPS/TAP/GUTARIX plugins, AZR3, and Fluidsynth, but keep them super-stable as they have been.
Thanks!

Hey all,
so i'm in a band now, and our first jam session was AWESOME. Fantastic
stuff. I'm keen on recording our next jam and wondered how i should do
it.
4 band members,
Instruments are:
Vocals 2 female, one male and one other guy who might sing.
Acoustic Rhythm guitar
Acoustic Lead guitar
and a drummer playing tambourine and bongos and a stomp box kick drum :)
I have an echo gina 3g, one condenser mic and one cheap crappy dynamic
mic. So far i'm just using the condenser. If everyone is in the same
room is it worth while micing everyone?
My gina takes in ADAT, should I buy an ADAT 8X mic preamp and a few
mics? Would it be better just to have a couple of mics randomly about
the room? Would you get wacky phase effects? It would be great to get
a good stereo mix easily. We can record one instrument at a time and
multi track fine with ardour at the moment, i just mostly want a good
way to capture our jam sessions so we can listen how it sounds.
If mics is the answer what should i grab? Cheap is fine.
Thanks!
Loki
Ken,
Is this the list or at least something similar to it?

If you find that priority list, would love to see it please.

I bought one for my controller keyboard and it seems to be just a
footswitch. Are they all like this - is there any way to get one that gives
you 127 levels of control?
Hi all!
I just got a USB tape dec, which acts as an ALSA USB-audio interface. Now I
wonder can I run both my PCI soundcard and the tape dec with one JACK, so I
can use the deck to playback (digitalise tapes) and record? I'd also like to
be able to listen live to tapes playing through the tapedeck, so just connect
tape-output to soundcard playback.
Kindest regards
Julien

Hello everyone!
I wondered: Is there a way to not only play full CDs with mplayer, but to
navigate through them track by track? I usually use something like this:
mplayer [device-options] cdda://1,2,3
OR:
cdda://*
[which generates an error message, but plays the whole CD]
Only whatever I tried, I can just press '+' and get to the next track,
although mplayer recognises track-boundaries. I see it around the time mplayer
gets to the next one (even while forwarding/rewinding). Mplayer prints
something like:
Track 2
Anyone any ideas?
I'm asking now, because with my new kernel, I can't get cdfs to compile.
:-( So no lack of curiousity, only never any pressing need.
Kindest regards
Julien

Hi all,
Here's the first version of an lirc/Ardour's OSC wrapper I wrote a while
ago. Since it's working for me, it's time for you to enjoy it!
* Allows controlling Ardour from any lirc remote
* Uses a perl script to map lirc commands to Ardour's OSC interface
This is also the time to introduce my company's free software forge.
