I downloaded and installed the latest Denemo 0.8.2, and I'm very confused as to how to get it to work with ALSA MIDI.
There's a menu command under "Input", that says "MIDI Input". I select it, and it gives an extraordinarily unhelpful error message: "Could not start MIDI input". Okk, great, I look around for a preference or settings menu item somewhere which would allow me to configure MIDI input, but, alas, nothing. Same with MIDI output: I want to send it to my ALSA MIDI synths.
Any ideas? Sorry for being so lazy, but I'm not in the mood to go surfing through the source code at the moment.

Hi all,
I've just posted a video tutorial for seq24 -- it discusses what seq24
is, and what it isn't, and then proceeds to demonstrate the basics of
building and playing patterns. If you've tried it in the past and been
confused by its somewhat unique interface, hopefully this will get you
past that initial confusion. The direct Youtube link is here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2WDHS1wYeM
and the post about it on my blog, which includes a downloadable copy of
the video in WebM format (playable in VLC 1.1, or Firefox 4 beta, among
other players), is here:

Thanks
Leigh
Dear seq24 users,
a new seq24 release is out, second time published by the Seq24team,
assisted (or driven?) by a group of engaged contributors.
https://edge.launchpad.net/seq24/
This release fixes several bugs and provides some new features which
are already prominent due to excellent tutorial videos (thanks to
Leigh Dyer). All users should upgrade to 0.9.1.
Please find source tarballs on the release page:

Hi all,
As we are about to start pushing a commercial release that was produced with about 80% free software and loads of advice from this list, I was thinking that it would be nice to have a quiet place where _members_of_the_LAU_list_only_ could download either the released tracks or perhaps some stripped-down Ardour sessions. Along with maybe a blog-like page where I could jot down some technical notes about each track (software used, how I got a particular effect, work-flow etc).
Would be on a "pay you when/if we start making money" kind of deal. Ongoing if things work out. I know nothing about servers or web-design.

It seems that my new laptop has a buggy USB controller (lspci says 'Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset USB2') and this causes JACK to fail in 'duplex mode' and 'only recording mode'
$ /usr/bin/jackd -dalsa -dhw:2 -r44100 -p1024 -n2
...
ALSA: could not start playback (Broken pipe)
DRIVER NT: could not start driver
...
I have an Edirol UA-25EX.
I read about this problem in:
where points to
*http://lists.linuxaudio.org/pipermail/linux-audio-user/2010-June/070365.html
Any idea to deal with the problem? What to do?
1) Try to have the money back
2) Try to use a USB_2_ExpressCard converter like this one?
http://www.delock.com/produkte/gruppen/Express-Card/Delock_Express_Card_to_… -> it says linux compatible
If this works, the performance will be similar, better or worst?
Thanks in advance,
Joan Quintana
PD. I checked a lot of things and grasped a lot of information thinking in my new laptop for audio production... but I never would thought in the USB chipset.
I'm writing to ask for help on an idea i have for building a bash
script to handle jackmidi connect-disconnects for multiple midi ports.
The premise is:
Start the script, and using keybindings assigned in the script,
quickly switch from one jackmidi port to another. (Whatever workspace
i'm in at the time)
I understand the "captured bindings" won't be able to be used by other
apps while the script is running, but i have sufficient obscure
combinations of modifier and <something> in mind.
Is this possible, and if so, could someone give a basic example of the
code required to assign a specific binding as a toggle, for a
jack_connect port out port in/jack_disconnect port out port in pair?
In this experiment, i'm planning to start with 16 jackmidi ports, with
an a2j port for the midi keyboard controller in.
This is with the intent of driving LinuxSampler directly to recorded
audio out. (No midi sequencer, and non-gui for everything)
Regards,
Alex.

I would appreciate if people could add positive comments to a bug in Mumbles
bug tracker to request Jack support.
This would provide a solid free cross platform VOIP solution for podcasters
to host shows reliably on while offering a free client on every platform.
If you agree with this please goto:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=3008867&group_id=1…
and help us in showing the developer that a little bit of work in this area
would help a lot of podcaster creating great content.

Question about the alsa_out tool in the JACK github.
How critical is the libresample portion of the code? What would happen if I removed it?
i.e. if I were sending, say, one stereo pair to one amp, and another stereo pair to a different amp, and didn't care about the word clocks being in sync, do I really need that libresample stuff sucking up valuable CPU? Or could I whack it? What would be the difficulties created by doing that? Again, this'd be only for output channels and I wouldn't need the word clocks to be in sync.

Hi,
I have uploaded a new mix I have done last night and this morning inspired
by Halloween weekend 2010 in Sydney, Australia and in particular Stacey
Pullen's excellent set. If you listen closely you may hear the influence.
It's a long player - 808 MB - 65mins - flac, 48Khz, stereo
http://djcj.org/audio/kotau/Abundance-Ambient-Psy-Trance-DJ_Kotau_Session_2…
Recorded on a quad core Intel 3Ghz, 8GB RAM, Fedora 12, using ardour3 for
multitracking, AMS for the pulsating bassline and Hydrogen for the drum
sequencing.
Designed to be played loud and immersively, and preferably with a large
blast of dopamines to the brain.
I think it could be enhanced with a seriously funky bassline. If anyone
wants to take a stab at it, that would be cool wid me. It's definitely in
there just about bursting to get out.
Cheers.
