Hi, I'm trying to follow the wiki screencasting guide:
http://apps.linuxaudio.org/wiki/screencasttutorial
however I don't get how Xephyr should work. I just get a big black
window. That's probably because I just removed the "/etc/X11/Xession"
line, but I don't have that file (I'm on Archlinux). I tried
substituting it with "xinit" (how I normally start X) but that didn't
work too.
how is it supposed to work?
cheers,

A couple years back I did a lot of this sort of parameter adjusting
to get Ubuntu Studio (vintage 9.x) to work with
as few xruns as possible with 2 AF12's.
After getting it running I did the same in vintage UB Studio 10.x, but
could never get it to the point of no xruns in a 2 hour recording.
I then stumbled on AVLinux. I installed it, fired up Jack and
Ardour...and it just worked. So that's what I've been using for
sometime now.
This is of course a single data point and I have not had the occasion
to do try anything with later releases. So: YMMV , caveat emptor.

Mac

Ok, I'll give it a shot at editing the wiki

Hi there,
Nowadays, I use Debian Squeeze to play my keyboard, which is an
M-Audio midi controlled connected to my PC through USB. The software I
am using is jack to connect all the stuff, mididings to control my
keyboard on real time (keyboard partitions on different outputs
channels, octaves configuration, etc), and QSynth to synthesize the
sounds. This works really nice by the way.
Now, I would like to practise with my band, using my computer and
headphones to not annoy my neighbours. At the beginning we would be
three: a bass, a guitar and the keyboards. I am thinking in using
guitarix to control the bass and the guitar. So, what I am searching
is a good audio interface, that works on GNU/Linux out of the box,
with some instrument inputs, and some headphones outputs. I was
thinking in something like
http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FastTrackUltra.html, but I have
read that it does not work out of the box in GNU/Linux. Besides, it
has only two headphones outputs, and we would need at least three at
the beginning, and I don't really know if those headphones outputs
could be used as system outputs.
In the future, we would like to add and electric drum too. I think
that this would not be a problem for the instrument inputs of the
audio interface, as it could be connected directly to USB sending MIDI
signals, but the problem would be that we would need another pair of
headphones.
To sum up, the questions are:
1- Do you know any good audio interface that works out of the box in
GNU/Linux, with at least two instrument inputs?
2- Could we use the same interface to connect 4 headphones?. Or should
we think in another hardware to make this?
Any help is really appreciated. Thanks very much,
tizo
Hello everyone!
I'm trying to design a bell with csound. I found a bit of material on the
web, but most of it has only graphic representations of the partials of the
sound and their suggested envelopes. I found one side with some basic
settings.
I'm sure though, that somewhere there will be a nice collection of analysed
bell sounds recorded from real bells or as part of some physical project. Is
anyone of you aware of textual data about bell sounds?
Oh yes: I want to work with additive synthesis and do the proper job. FM
might be OK, but not for this sound and not for the control over the exact
sound I have in mind.
Thanks in advance for any help on this!
Kindest regards
Julien

Hi everybody,
i'd like to share my happiness with you all for the release of the fully
free software made album Garage Orchestra! - The decision of Don Rodrigo.
It has been released by Futurebeat Ltd.
It has been a very hard and long work since i've made the entire
production, from the arrangements to the final master. The result is a mix
of atlernative rock, pop and electronic.
I hope you appreciate the effort.
Cheers

Yes, it's another composition made with AVSynthesis. Sigh. However, to
spice things up I decided to deploy the very nice Cmask module in
Jean-Pierre's program.
Btw, I tried to post MP3/OGG files to my usual station at
linux-sound.org but the site is still under maintenance. I'll post a
notice when they're available, for those of us who have not yet
succumbed to the Cloud.

Hello everybody,
It seems I'm working on lots of songs but never complete any of it ;)
So to break with tradition, here's a new tune that popped out during
beta testing of MusE. :)

I think it may be somekind of progressive electronica... if it matters ;)
Feedback is very welcome,

hi all,
just wanted to announce a live performance.
In this project we use primarily linux and GNU GPL software (Pure Data,
GEM, SuperCollider, Icecast, Ogg/Theora video) and hardware
(SenseStage).
Appologies for any cross posting.
Transmittance #2 - telepresence performance
===========================================
@ Tobacco 001 Cultural Centre, Ljubljana
// 13. december 2011 @ 20:00 CET //
Online audience can watch and interact with the performance live using a
recent version of popular browser like Firefox or Chrome. No other
software is needed.
Transmittance explores collaboration which is local, global, networked
and broadcasted. It involves an artistic group of performers, visual
artists, musicians and computer programmers to research performative
possibilities of streaming, broadcasting and telepresence forging new
types of performance and audience. With focus on critical and
socially-aware artistic languages this work is based on asking
questions about body, self and society - opening non-dualistic
perspectives.
The project tries to rethink the notions of spectatorship and
spectacle, ways of watching and seeing and the audience as spectators
from the outside. In framework of free telepresence technologies it is
a quest to open new spaces of visibility for performance and new media
art and while critically deconstruct also actively bypass power
structures that have a hold on physical spaces of artistic
representation. Emphasis is made on creative use of free and open
source software and its impact on artistic process and collaboration.
The project develops a specific method of improvised performance which
allows compositional freedom beside specific prepared scenes at the
same time and in the process collide different specifics of various
artistic media (performance art, expanded cinema, sound art, new media
realities).
Transmittance is a project proposed by Maja Delak & Luka Prinčič.

Hi list,
I'm wondering, how is the linux support for those tablets with a fake
pen used for drawing? Are they plain HIDs and thus usable in pd/sc? I'm
particularly interested in the pressure sensitive ones...
