There might be samples that are better than FM synthesis, but I don't
know any free sample that is better. The DX7 sounds are very good. Since
it seems to be possible to load DX7 sounds to Hexter, IMO you should
test it. I guess there will be a lot of DX7 xylophone sounds available
by the Internet.
I know that Hexter's default sounds aren't good, but usually vibraphone
and xylophone sounds for the DX7 sound more natural than …
[View More]free samples
do.
Sample player sounds aren't real sounds either, if they don't use
layered samples for every key ;). I suspect you won't get such a super
sample for free, perhaps illegal by torrent :(.

The first DX7, the first once in the brown metal case without an update,
are able to produce those kinds of sounds, later DX7 or first DX7 with
updates or Hexter might do it too, while I won't use a later DX7 or
Hexter ;), since I own a 'real' old faithful DX7 and never updated it.
Dunno, if there's a way to program sounds for Hexter? If so, you should
try Hexter. Hexter seems to be able to emulate a DX7, but the presets
are garbage, compared with a real old faithful, non-upgraded DX7.
Regarding to Xylophone and Vibraphone sounds all free sfs and gigs I
know are less good than FM synthetic sounds.

Hi list,
for a Tom Waits "all the world is green" cover, we need a free sample of
xylophone
(no brilliant single note to feed Specimen) that seems hard to find
after 2 hours
on the web.
Any link appreciated !

instead of trying to find new apps to make a dark xylophone sound you could try use existing software.
if you found some 'normal' xylophone samples and put them into your sampler of choice. then using a combo of low pass filters,
reverb and maybe very slight bitcrushing you could get close to the sound you want.

I'll repeat this: Defaults for frequencies are useless, there are no
defaults! Not only for the mastering, there are also no special defaults
for instruments. At e.g. SAE they teach idiocy and say, for sax use
"this EQ setting" etc., or at least some students guess that they should
learn this, when watching a VIP engineer.
It's nonsense. Frequencies are a "room" and you'll place the instruments
inside this "room". …
[View More]As there's no default for the panning, there's no
default for the frequencies.
An exception: 100 Hz isn't a good value. 80 Hz or lower as
shelving-filter is a good position to start.
I'm not referring to "plugin 1970", but to the usage of EQs in general.
For the master sum I would prefer a graphical, instead of a parametric
EQ, while for single instruments a parametric EQ might be more useful.
The parametric EQ is the "fineliner" you use to draw lines to the
"picture", the graphical EQ for the master sum is to tune
"contrast/brightness" for the complete "picture".

Hello,
After the latest Debian testing update to jackd 0.121.0 (Deb version 5)
I now have audible and annoying pops in my audio. It sounds like it
could be an xrun but jack doesn't report any. Playback through alsa is
clean. It seems fairly random, but persistent. Anyone else have similar issues?
Cheers,
S.M.

Hello, this is what Pere (eq10q developer) wrote to me yesterday about
my problems with eq10q...
take care

Hello,
I never see this with EQ10Q, but the EQ10Q code is a little outdated and
it's possible that somethings goes wrong with a new lv2-C++-tools. Also
lv2-…
[View More]C++-tools is not the best solution for a plugin implementation. At
this moment I'm working in a new version of EQ10Q removing the
lv2-C++-tools and Plotmm for a better performance and stability. The new
version will include other equalizers in mono and stereo versions. Now
I'm finishing the audio core (DSP) of the new EQ10Q using a completly
redesigned code and based to lv2-core. Also the GUI will be rewrited to
improve it.
I don't know when it will be released because I don't have a lot of free
time to write the code.
About the donation, I also have to redesing the website in order to
include a donation button but now I don't have time to do it.
Thank you very much for you interesnt in EQ10Q and opensource world. I
hope that all new features will be avalible soon.
Best regards

Hi Pere,
sorry if i write directly to you but i can't fix the problem even
though i posted on LAU.
I want to use only open source software for my works and your eq10q
is an important one.
I use Ubuntu-studio 10.04 with Ardour 2.8.11 on my PackardBell mh36
laptop (intel 2core t4200, 3 gb ram).
i took eq10q from Autostatic's ppa and He said he compiled it using
against the newer libpaq (lv2-c++-tools) library.
When i stop playback ,during my mixing session, dsp increases to 100 %.
This it causes me a lot of xrun in jack...
If i disable the eq10q in many tracks everything come back to normal.
Any suggestion about that ?
I'd like to donate something to your project but i
can't find any donate button here:
http://eq10q.sourceforge.net/
Can you show me a way to do that ?
Thanks in advance
Nicola

Hello,
I'm using a four band parametric EQ (ladspa 1970) and am wondering what
manner of units the bandwidth parameter employs. The range is 0.125-8.
Octaves?

Hello,
I installed the latest guitarix/gx_head and I am a little puzzled. It
used to be that one could choose to have only the activated plugins and
effects shown in the main window, but now it seems it's all or none.
Also, I can't seem to find the cab simulation selector any more. Can
anyone give me a hint?
Cheers,
S.M.
