Thanks for that Ralf, I have wondered in the past if there's a proper way to use these things - how's this?

...and I now have a new shiny kernel - and a result: The FA101 has MIDI I/O showing in JACK MIDI, which is superb!
Thanks to both of you - I'd never have thought of touching the kernel to solve these problems.
I went to do my sysex recording just now, and unfortunately I can't get these new "EDIROL FA-101 MIDI 1" ports to connect to anything. This isn't something I've experienced before - you can Alt-C to connect like anything else, but no connection line appears no matter how many times I try. I've restarted Jack to no avail.
Any more suggestions?
cheers, Oliver

Hey hey,
I have two M-Audio Delta 1010 soundcards. Currently my driver is built into
the kernel. Can I rely on the two cards not being swapped after reboots or can
I fix it, even though the driver is built into the kernel?
A pointer to meaningful documentation on that point will suffice. Thank you!

I loaded Jaaa 0.8.4.
It appears to only have a analyze mde.
Is there a switch to get it to be a signal generator as well.
And the user interface doesn't have the output section as shown on the
kokkinizita web site.

Mac
Hi Ralf,
Things have improved a lot: I'm able to use all my wanted outputs through hdspmixer : phones, SPDIF,AES and analog all work fine. Now i'm left with the task to introduce brutefir in the process. My guess is that it is another story !!!
Final word for now : RME HDSPe Aio is well recognized in Alsa to-date, the powerful (thank you Thomas) but not straightforward hdspmixer lacks a good "how to" file somewhere...
Thank you all for your help, I will now dig into the bash scripts !

Correct, it's impossible to change this. In my demo file the submix
view is disabled. Check the submix view and after that you can select
the "label" and then use the faders for the submix. It should work for
analog, phones and ADAT 1+2, IIRC for S/PDIF too. I never tested
AES/EBU. It doesn't work for ADAT 3 to 8 on my machine.
Please, a few mails off-list are ok, but when sending a request to a
mailing list, it's better to provide the way to solve the issue to the
list too.

Hi Harry, Hi Ralf,
Thank you for the fast answers.
Harry, in fact you did not quite answer question 1 : do I have to use
hdsploader ? Put it another way, would the card be recognized if the
firmware is not ok? This firmware question is not clear for me : I fear
to corrupt the card's windows firmware if I run hdsploader. Maybe that's
completely wrong...
I agree that using amixer seems to be a horrible way to work, but I
could not manage to get anything out of hdspmixer... There is no way to
change the routes it loads by default ! clicking on the playback labels
doesn't allow to check or uncheck existing boxes.
This is why I wonder if there isn't anything wrong with my setup, namely
: would the use of hdsploader change hdspmixer's behaviour ?
Thank you
François

Hi list,
I recently decided to try the following setup:
mpd is running on my NAS machine with jack audio outputs and ympd as web
interface. The jack server uses the dummy backend but has the netmanager
loaded.
The problem is that mpd sometimes deletes its jack ports and created a
new pair. And since the number and names of the connected net slaves
varies, I thought a classic session manager might not fit (admitting
that I didn't really try it).
So I created a small program that registers as slave without ports but
watches for new port registrations. If a pair of out- and input ports
matches their regular expressions specified on the command line, they
are connected.
I used Qt to solve the problem that ports cannot be connected in the
same thread that the notification-callback is executed. Using the
QueuedConnection, the SLOT (reaction to a SIGNAL event) is executed in
the receiver's thread.
To solve the challenge I'm using this command now:
jack_autoconnect "Music Player Daemon:left" ".*:to_slave_1" "Music
Player Daemon:right" ".*:to_slave_2"
The system is working pretty well. The music and playlists can be
controlled from any device with webbrowser and multiple playout machines
connect via NetJack to the NAS. And the synchronization between all of
them is just perfect!
The code is on github:
https://github.com/kripton/jack_autoconnect
Comments are welcome :D
A big "Thank you!" too everyone who makes all of this possible!
Best regards,
Jannis
