Hey Set
Thank you! I got tired of spending hours on things during my education that are just throwaway afterwards. Strongly believe that academia is far too much about constant testing, and should be more based on learning through doing. Wanted to use my time constructively and "give something back" :)
Now I just have to deliver... Feeling the pressure, but glad I chose this and the support is great!
Cheers,
Oliver

Hi,
ASAP I need to buy a new mobo, so most likely a new CPU and RAM too. It must be cheap and provide PCIe for audio and PCI for at least one additional sound card used for MIDI. In the low cost price range my favored dealer seems to provide ASRock, ASUS and Gigabyte that fulfill these requirements. Is one of those vendors known to be better or less good in the low price range than the others or is it better to chose another vendor?
Regarding issues old AMD CPUs relatively often had with new rt kernels, I suspect an Intel CPU could be the better choice. Are there any of the cheaper AMD or Intel CPUs known to cause issues for audio and MIDI work, resp. known to work flawlessly?
Is there something to consider regarding UEFI? I don't need it and I wonder if it could be disabled for all new mobos.
Send from my iPad, since my LINUX PC is gone to the happy hunting grounds.
Regards,
Ralf
Hello !
Is it possible to replace an all-purpose distro like Linux Mint by
KXStudio and have the same basic functionality ? Might sound like a
not-so-good question, although I prefer to ask it, just in case. Any
drawbacks in running KXStudio as a main distro ?
Cheers.
Thanks Brent
I'll look into this when I refine my feature list. Could you be a little more precise? Does this involve notes that go outside the loop boundaries? Is it the same notes that are lost every time?
A one-loop project file that gives this error would be lovely.
Thanks

Thanks Flo, this looks a useful resource. I'll definitely use what you have :)
I'm not at this level of audio programming yet, but I'll need to be there soon to have a chance with this project. Will be an adventure!
Seq24 is Alsa midi, yep.
Cheers,
Oliver

Hi Seq24 users,
For my final year university project, I am taking on an overhaul of seq24. Below is an excerpt from my project proposal - the list of features I would like to implement -
[quote]
<< Basic (simple changes that should be quick to address) >>
- Swap default on midi autoconnect to second value (add to config file)
- Song / loop mode switch in main UI
- Recent files list
- Move config file to .config folder in /home
- Label keys correctly on loops past bank 1
<< Medium (bug fixes, smaller new features) >>
- Don't take scene change inputs when renaming loops
- With dual screens, remember window placement
- Darken Song mode (overall dark theme like Ardour?)
- Fix glitch with overlaps in loops
- Session manager fixes
- Toggle loops in song mode
- Click time bar to position transport
- Draw and re-position snap in song mode should behave identically
- Add one shot loops
- Decrease size of grid in song mode
- Add name of scene to the side when in song view
- Add autosave function
- Midi send if halfway through note (can be enabled / disabled in preferences)
- Draw whole notes instead of cutting off early in song mode loops
- Add configurable defaults for note length/ grid snap
- Add note stop/panic button
- Loop colouring
- Fix bug where certain slots cannot contain loops
<< Challenging (significant new features) >>
- Add Box select in song editor (REAPER style)
- Add redo in song mode
- Add Record in song mode
- Allow splitting of song loops at mouse pointer
- Zoom in song mode
- Window title should just have the song name
- Fix jack sync bug/reset button
- Relative velocity altering (REAPER style)
- Add a double / half timing switch for live performance
Where I note “REAPER style”, I plan to source inspiration from the REAPER audio workstation I use under Windows (http://reaper.fm/). The “Ardour” I mention is a Linux audio workstation, and probably the most significant audio project on Linux (http://ardour.org/).
[end quote]
What do you all think? It'll also be great to have a few people test it during development.
This project will also be open source, and remain faithful to the ideals of the original project.
If you have any feedback on my list of changes or any other suggestions, please do get in touch!
Best,
Oliver
Thanks Pelle - these are all great feature ideas, with nice detail. Renoise is really great, definitely worth learning IMO.
The one window thing is up for debate (I personally prefer one window apps like you), but keyboard shortcuts are an easy thing to implement and I don't know why I didn't think of the idea myself!
Thanks,
Oliver

Cheers Luke
I start working on it in the new year, so any thoughts about features would be super useful over the next month or so.
Testing will be much appreciated!
Best,
Oliver
