Hi all,
For a sound playback system I'm putting together, based on a Raspberry Pi 3,
I'm looking to have 4 channels of input and output, and to have the system
to run automatically at startup.
For this, I'm wondering how to (best) execute zita-a2j and zita-j2a; I've
tried two methods that don't work:
1. ask Qjackctl to execute the following script after startup:
sleep 5
zita-j2a -d hw:CODEC_1
2. execute this script:
qjackctl (with auto-start)
sleep 10
zita-j2a -d hw:CODEC_1
Executing the zita-j2a manually after Qjackctl has finished starting the
jack server does work.
Any pointers greatly appreciated!
Cheers, Steven

Hey hey,
I'm trying to identify a bird, which doesn't really belong here. OTOH, where
else to find so many good and informed ears? :)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ykixyw8vhpyw8zf/bird.ogg
It's the bird call that begins with a kind of stuttering (immediately at the
beginning of the recording). It's slightly to the left of centre and another
one much farther to the left. It's very repetitious. -- I tried searching for
typical candidates, but nothing really matched.
Sorry for the OT, but the curiosity is killing me. :)
Best wishes,
Jeanette

Hi list
Long time since I posted here. For the last couple of years I've been getting into modular, so the amount of software I use now is quite minimal. I'm still a 100% native linux user though.
I've been running reaper through wine for quite some time, but recently switched to the native linux build, and it works great. The releases seem to be in sync with the more mainstream platforms, suggesting they are at a point where they consider linux an equal platform.
My new year's resolution for 2019 was to start a youtube channel of modular performances in my humple home studio. I'm pretty new to video, and after trying a few editors, I settled on kdenlive, which seems to work ok. However, since reaper also has some video editing capabilities, I might try that out at some point.
Here's the first video from the youtube channel, aptly named "native dancer", since it was the first recording I did in linux native reaper. Hope you enjoy!

Reaper is providing master clock to the first Beatstep Pro, which is driving the second one. Midi from the two is merged in a midi merger and send to two cv.ocds (midi to cv converters). From there the modular is doing it's thing. Audio is send from appropriate places in the patch to a soundcraft mtk22 mixer, multi-track recorded in reaper. Then after mixing in reaper, video is synced to the audio in kdenlive and edited, matching the colors (to the best of my ability), and switching camera views.
The recording is done in one take (audio + video), no cuts or overdubs.
Again: hope you enjoy!
Cheers
Atte
I originally composed this in 2006 using Rosegarden for sequencing a mixture of
Sound Canvas, ZynAddSubFX & Qsynth with Audacity for recording.
This latest mix uses Rosegarden and Audacity as before, but the only thing in
the middle is Yoshimi :)

Say you have a poem and I have a tune.
Exchange them and we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.
Hi all,
Anyone out there successfully using the Ambix (0.2.8) LV2 plugins with
Ardour5?
I am having problems loading any of the plugins into Ardour5. This
happens with both the Fedora ardour package and the demo install from
Ardour.org. The Ambix plugins do load, for example, in Qtractor, but not
in Ardour.
Ardour shows them in the plugin manager, you can select one, "Add" it
and then when you do an insert it a panel pops up that says "the plugin
xxx could not be loaded". Looking at the log I see (for example):
[ERROR]: LV2: Failed to instantiate plugin
file:///usr/lib64/lv2/ambix_converter_o1.lv2/ambix_converter_o1
The directory looks like this:
ls -l /usr/lib64/lv2/ambix_converter_o1.lv2/
total 5068
-rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 5171056 Nov 29 20:43 ambix_converter_o1.so
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 5504 Nov 29 19:50 ambix_converter_o1.ttl
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 901 Nov 29 19:50 manifest.ttl
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 378 Nov 29 19:50 presets.ttl
I built the plugins according to the build instructions, and nothing
weird is shappening there that I can see (the build uses a recent
lv2-devel package, etc). All the Ambix standalone applications that are
also built work just fine with jack.
Any help appreciated! (I have students that want to use them... :-)
At some point in the past this was working but I don't know how recently
this broke (I think this was fine in Fedora 24, it is broken in my tests
on both Fedora 28 and 29).
Thanks in advance!

HI,
This is a real n00b question, so I apolgise in advance. I am struggling
with saving my connections and setup through reboots etc using qjackctl,
and a host of synths (Zyn, Hydrogen, QSynth) as well as Ardour. How do I
make it all link together in the correct way when I start my project again?
I'm clearly missing something here in what I'm doing.
Hey everyone!
I have just released a new album. This is not project "droning", but
instead a separate work. A journey into the tribal form of ambient, with
elements of a cinematic feel and a few surprises along the way.
The album was written using a whole set of software, including a modular
Linux software stack (Qtractor, Rakarrack, Kluppe), later arranged,
automated and mixed in FL Studio, additional mixing completed with GoldWave.
Special thanks to Paul Davis, Nils, James Shain, John Koch-Northrup, Greg
Moorcroft and Necto Ulin for preliminary feedback and advice.
The album can be streamed from Bandcamp:
https://louigi.bandcamp.com/album/first-continent
If you would like to support my work, the whole album costs just 3 EUR, or
you can grab individual tracks for 1 EUR. This will give you lossless
quality.
Free version will soon appear on my ambient YouTube channel
