Version 2.3.3 of the GPLed musical score editor NoteEdit is available: http://rnvs.informatik.tu-chemnitz.de/~jan/noteedit/noteedit.html New features: - import MusicXML Thanks to Leon Vinken <leon.vinken(a)hetnet.nl> This feature is still experimental. Do not expect any compatibility with MusicXML files exported by Rosegarden. The MusicXML files produced by the Rosegarden sequencer are incorrect, because: - Not every <part> has a corresponding </part> - Note types crotchet and minim should be quarter, half etc. - MIDI channel numbers in MusicXML range from 1 to 16, Rosegarden starts at 0 - MIDI program numbers range from 1 to 128, Rosegarden starts at 0 - The part-name is empty - The score-part is empty Furthermore: There is a undocumented feature : "direct" printing. Thanks to Jorge <j.windmeisser(a)elogix.info>. This features uses "abcm2ps" in background to enable quasi direct printing. Unfortunately, this feature works only if you install NoteEdit in KDE and "print to file" is not possible. [linux-audio-user] no sound with muse-0.6.1deb1-1 and ALSA

Hi all, when i start muse i get the following error: [root@nexus:ck] muse no locale <muse_en_US>/</usr/share/muse/locale> JACK: sample rate changed: 48000 ALSA: set buffer size, req: 384 got: 768 ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:1055:(snd_pcm_hw_open) open /dev/snd/pcmC0D0c failed: Device or resource busy ALSA: open error: Device or resource busy ladccad is running and jackd i started with this options: jackd -d alsa -d hw:0 -p 1024 & Im running 2.6.0-test9, have a YMF-744B and with e.g. xmms i can hear sound 'through' ALSA. These spectral data, where the development in time is incorporated in mysterious ways, may then be transformed by different algorithms prior to resynthesis. The CVS version compiled without any problems (libhydrogen-0.8.1beta3) =) thanks! to lee and Comix: I don't know about your suggestions: ^libtool is not installed, or is not in your path: whereis libtool: /usr/bin/libtool echo $PATH: /usr:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/opt/qt-3.1.2/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin i tried running ./autogen.sh it didn't work either Thanks all! now I need to decide how many versions of qt I want hogging up my disk space because hydrogen-0.8.1beta3 needs qt-3.2 I know that there is another app that is supposed to work best with 3.1.2 , and I know that hydrogen doesn't consider qt versions backwards compatable ( I tried installing 0.8.0 after I got the libs to work and it complained because qt-3.1.2 was too new! [linux-audio-user] Audio typing

Hi. I know this isn't the kind of thing that generally gets discussed on this list, but it does kind of relate to linux audio. I have an hour or so of taped conversation I need to type up. I was planning to record it to my hard disk so I can do everything from the keyboard. What I'd like to be able to do is set up keyboard shortcuts for rewind / pause etc that I can use without task-switching out of the wordprocessor. If I understand correctly one way of doing this would be to set up a global keyboard shortcut that runs a program that sends a jack_transport message to the audio app. If I had lots of time or a bit more experience I might be inclined to set something like that up for the sake of my education, but I suspect it would end up taking considerably longer than the typing itself! Is there a simpler solution I'm missing? If anyone has any ideas for an efficient audio-typing system I can use on Mandrake 9.2 please let me know. Thanks.

Is there an open-source alternative to MIDI "pattern" files as used by Yamaha PSR keyboards, etc? Does ABC fit the bill? Is there a repository of ABC or other free pattern files somewhere? If not I think somebody should start one. ( please don't answer "go for it!" .. I've already got enough on my plate :) -Ben

[linux-audio-user] How to get waves?

Hello, I am pretty new to this. I have ardour//low latency//jack all working. I have a few samples of drums, etc that I play around with, etc. It works really well, etc. What is the next step? Where can I get more samples to play with? Is there a good program I can use to make my own samples? I tried using SpiralSynthModular, but it crashed a lot, and I couldn't figure out how to get anything other than a tunable buzz out of it. Any help would be appreciated.
