Granted, that is harsh. But then again you have to consider that the person listening to it may not know that you are trying to make it sound like old vinyl. Unless you make it particularlly obvious that you actually want it to sound like old vinyl the listener may just think you did a crappy recording job.
Personally I've used this meathond and the less of a rolloff on either end and the less mix from the fuzz from the record the newer it will sound and vice versa. It's ultimately up to you though how you want it to sound.

That's pretty harsh.
Recent vinyl records actually have a pretty good frequency response.

It's actually the dust motes that contribute the most to the "vinyl
feel". It should be fun to simulate that, actually.
Should be like... lemme see... white noise shot through narrow and tall
envelopes. Pretty much like the attack phase of the piano sound, except
that the parameters are different (hence it sounds more like "plastic"
than "metal").

You might try sending channel and FX outputs to a bus and then using that bus as the input for your stereo track. (Just a shot in the dark)

HDSP Multiface. rev 0b according to lspci. using the pci card
interface from a beige box. i have the cardbus (for my mac) but don't
have a linux laptop to try it with, i hear there are different
problems.
it works well, despite the fact that i haven't changed the interrupt
yet and it still exists on irq5 with some usb-uhci and other things.
i've been starting it with qjackctl, set at 512/2. midi works too!

Generally it is in your /etc/modules.conf file
Some distros auutomatically generate this file from other files though. In that case you have to modify the file that it uses to generate the ALSA section within modules.conf
For example in Debian it's something like /etc/modutils/alsa
On my Gentoo box it's found at /etc/modules.d/alsa
Hope that helps.

Maybe what we should do on this list is work out which are the best
supported cards under Linux, using our collective experience. I've
had no problems with the M Audio Delta 1010 or the SB Live 512, but I
have had limited sucess with the Midiman DMAN PCI and the Turtle
Beach Tropez Plus.
Votes for / votes against, people? We should be able to figure out a
top 5 or top 10 cards.
Cheers
Daniel
Hi again
Sorry to be bothering you so much since the information probably lies out
there somewhere, but when I come to alsa-project.org and simular, I just get
lost in all the tech-talk. (Quite annoying for someone with a phd to feel
that lost... )
Anyway': Since the staudio c-port's midi in wont work (unless the patch on
http://www.linuxhq.com/kernel/file/sound/pci/ice1712.c makes it work, but I
couldn't find anything there to tell me how to a)check if I allready had tha
patch, b)what it does, or c) how to apply it - being an old wintel gui slave
is not satisfacotry...) I decided to activate the soundcard on my Asus P4T-E
card. the soundcard is found by my mandrake 9.2 installation, but the midi
port doesn't come up when I type 'aconnet -io'.
Could aome kind soul be so kind as to show me how to find out if the midi in
works and how to activate it?
Your most humble fan!

RME hammerfall multiface/planet-ccrma redhat 9.0
works great w/jack/alsa. midi i/o, 18 audio channels.

HI!
I was installed alsa + jackd, and jackd not start using this command
line:
# jackd -d alsa -d hw:0 -p512
And the output is an infinite lines just like the following lines...
**** alsa_pcm: xrun of at least 0.019 msecs
**** alsa_pcm: xrun of at least 0.051 msecs
**** alsa_pcm: xrun of at least 0.016 msecs
**** alsa_pcm: xrun of at least 0.015 msecs
**** alsa_pcm: xrun of at least 0.020 msecs
**** alsa_pcm: xrun of at least 0.014 msecs
**** alsa_pcm: xrun of at least 0.025 msecs
[...]
But jackd is 'running' but not usable, because 'ardour' abort saying:
'jackd not present'
What can I do?
thanks a lot for your help,
Felix
Hi
I see on http://timidity.sourceforge.net/ that timidity has jack support as of
august, but it doesn't say anywhere how to start timidity as jack client.
Does anyone know?
Best
