Hi,
I have an HP 7965 desktop dual-booting between XP and RH Linux 8.0.
The standard installation did not get the sound card working, and
every time I tried to use XMMS, an error message would pop up saying
that the sound card could not be contacted.
I installed the ALSA driver, library, and utilities as per the
instructions at
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php3?company=Analog%2…
and then used insmod to load them, also as per the instructions at
that page.
Now xmms and the system seem to recognize the module and the sound
card-I don't get any error messages-but I don't get any sound. I
used alsamixer to unmute the system, but I still get nothing. It
works fine in XP, so I don't know what the problem would be. Here is
the relevant output from vi /proc/ioports:

I'm wondering if anyone has had the opportunity to look into the new RME
HDSP 9652 card that has started shipping.

Will this require new driver development, or is it by chance compatible

btw: this new bugbear worm seems to be very clever in forging sender and
mail bodies. don't be surprised if one of your list postings surfaces
elsewhere with a slighly bogus sender and a virus attached. and don't
raise hell on the lists :)
for now, i have bugbear posts trapped in the filters, but that thing
seems to be evolving like linux audio, so please forgive if some make it
through to the lists.

I've tried to control the Bristol synth by
ShakeTracker+ASeqView (running as it is explained
in "HOWTO Use MIDI Sequencers With Softsynths")
I run bristol with "-midi seq" option.
It works in principle...
But I got the following strange behavior:
the tones the Bristol produces are one note late of what must be done.
But the timing is correct.
I mean if I write in Saketracker:

C#
..
F#
E#

In Bristol it is played like:
==
..
E#
..
C#
F#
==
So the questions are:
Who's fault this is? Bristol's, aseqview's, shaketracker's, alsa-seq's or mine :) ?
How can I debug this by myself?
I mean how can I trace the midi data sent?

I just installed SuSE 8.0 Professional on a fresh hard disk.
I've been using Mandrake 8.1 successfully since last December. My
sound card is an Ensoniq ES1370. The processor is a 1.8 GHz
Pentium 4 with 512 MB of RAM.
When I play back a recording made under SuSE 8.0 with Broadcast
2000, the playback is at approximately double speed. However, the
pitch is OK. There are some weird artifacts, too, like small bits
are missing. This happens whether I play the WAV file under
Broadcast or with Audacity. Recordings made with Audacity under
SuSE 8.0 play fine, as do recordings made with Broadcast 2000
under Mandrake 8.1.
Broadcast 2000 is set up for 16 bit word length and 44100 KHz
sampling rate.
Has anyone seen this? I don't know what to try next. Aside from
this, I like SuSE better than Mandrake. However, for a variety of
reasons, not least that I am used to it, I'd like to stick with
Broadcast 2000 for recording.
