Hi, I'm currently building a digital organ, using GrandOrgue as the main software. I've also constructed the console using Arduinos (Arduini?) to scan tab stops etc., but as these are not recognised as music devices I interpose instances of a program that reads/writes over a ttyUSB? serial port and injects the MIDI events into Jack. After lots of trials, I'm getting close to working, but just noticed an oddity. When I connect up the console and route the incoming messages into jack and then on to a midi monitor I notice that Jack seems to be changing my note-on events slightly. I'd been working on sending note-offs as note-on(0x9?) with velocity=0, which has always worked in the past for me, but Jack modifies these to be genuine note-off messages, with velocity=64. Is there a good reason for doing this? It probably doesn't matter much, though I will now have to check in my Arduino code for the official note-off. Are there two-axis joystick-style foot pedals?

Pressing the tips normally controls the brakes separately for L and R, these should be proportional but may be spring loaded and come back up if you release them. The two pedals can also slide forward and back - they are linked, as one goes forward the other will go backwards. This normally controls the rudder and nose wheel steering. pipewire problem - sounds like a bitcrusher (sometimes)

Hi, I've recently (not quite sure when it started) had trouble with Pipewire. In my setup, I use all the drop-in replacements for JACK, pulseaudio, alsa, etc. The problem is that sometimes, after a while, everything starts to sound like it has a bitcrusher/downsampling effect applied. A typical path to the problem would be: 1 - start a browser tab that plays audio, pause the audio (everything sounds as expected) 2 - then start a youtube video in another tab while leaving the original tab open 3 - close the second tab 4 - go back to the first one and continue playback (everyhing sounds like there's a downsampling effect applied). I usually have to restart the browser. But it's not only happening with browser applications. Muting and un-muting channels repeatedly in Ardour can create the same problem. I've observed this on two laptops, both running up-to-date Arch Linux with latest Pipewire, usually with the internal sound card. Does anyone have a hint on how to solve this? Best, Niklas

Yoshimi 2.3.0.3

Yet another bugfix release {sigh} This was an extremely obscure PadSynth crash. To the best of my knowledge nobody has hit it yet - it showed up in testing. There was also a less important issue, where some compositing window managers didn't recognise all of Yoshimi's windows as part of Yoshimi. I'm reminded of this! Ten little bugs hiding in the code, Ten little bugs hiding in the code. So you fix a little bug, and compile it all again. There's eleven little bugs hiding in the code. On the brighter side there is a small new feature. If you have the virtual keyboard visible, then selecting an instrument with the mouse from a bank will pass keyboard focus back to the virtual keyboard. [OT] Portable MP3/mediaplayer (with speech?)

Hey hey, my old Rockbox enabled MP3-player just broke and I'm looking for a replacement. There are some requirements which make it challenging to find a proper alternative. I need soomething that will be recognised as a simple mass storage USB device, i.e. can be mounted on Linux. I need playback by folder structure, i.e. sorting by folder- and filename. Furthermore some kind of simplistic speech output would be really helpful, since I can't see. Furthermore bookmarks and a proper resume function are required. I used to have a Sandisk Sansa Clip+, which was supported by Rockbox. This player has been discontinued for years. Some players occasionally come up for sale, but I suspect that their life span will be rather limited. What do the joggers or audiobook fans amongst you use? Sorry for the OT, but here, at least, I can guarantee that the device can be adminstered from the right OS. KVR cafe contest at risk

This month we only have 6 entries, and the closing date is the 27th. The guy organising this nearly threw in the towel a few months ago due to low numbers, and he gives up now it's very unlikely it will ever restart. So if you have anything at all up to 3 minutes long that can be remotely described as relating to a colour (or two) please submit it ASAP. Any way to exclude devices from a2jmidid?

Gday, I'm experimenting using a Universal Mackie Controller with Reaper. The reaper extension needs unfettered access to the controllers midi ports so conflicts with a2jmidid. However all my other midi devices need the bridge running. Is there perhaps a way to configure a2jmidid to exclude a certain device, or I am I stuck with unloading and reloading the bridge?
