I happen to agree. If there are x PA devices on my MOBO, I want to see
x of them in JACK.
I am one of the "few" mentioned in one post who have a 12 chan.
firewire device as well as the devices on the mobo. I have a tri-amp'd
stereo using a variety of JACK apps such as CALFrack and zita-lrx.
(hopefully quad-amp'd and surround in the future)
When I installed UBStudio 12.04 I was glad to see that PA just created
the sink/sources in JACK and I didn't have to go figure something out.
It's quite nice to be able to patch things around from the PA devices.
I have yet to configure a surround sound system and have not seen
anything showing up labeled as front, side rear, etc. (Is there a
surround sound app? Do any of the apps that will play a dvd or bluray
on a PC provide surround? Haven't attempted it yet, just askin.)
Also, if you set the default to stereo, how does it choose whether to
use the jack (as in 3.5mm) on the front or the rear of the computer
case?

Hello everyone!
I hope, that there is someone here, who has strong ties to freesound.org.
I went back there today to give registration another go. I said, that their
registration was rather a nuiance (captcha codes). Now I find audio captchas,
as provided by google. Which is all very well. I can download the audio
captcha and listen to it. After a quarter ofan hour Imanaged to guess a right
code and then was asked to copy a lot of text into another entry field. OK,
even that is no problem. But then, there is no button to press. Javascript.
So I think, I might give it a go and send a message to kindly ask for
support. But of course: I am politely asked to use the captcha.
I have been wondering: for a free site, sharing material with all the world,
if the world so desires, they are very well hidden. I know a fair number of
commercial web sites, which are easier to access and register with, including
- but not limited to - amazon and jpc, a large German musical instruments'
shop,...
I know, they have problems with spam, but so have others. So have/had we at
some time, so have some forums, I once registered with and still, they all
weren't that bricked off. - I am part of a minority, even a rather small one,
seeing, that I use text-based programs, whereever possible. But I nkow of
others, who do have their scripts disabled for various reasons (blind or not).
I do hope, that someone here really is part of the team, otherwise I would
have wasted words and flooded this list with unnecessary spam of my own. :-)
Warm regards
Julien

That bug is related to the wrapper script that used to be a part of the
qjackctl package, and though it still is for current releases, it hasn't
been doing any suspending of PA for quite a while, because the wrapper
script has been broken.
The reason for the wrapper script was likely because of the bug where PA
was not letting go of the device when jack was asking for it. There was a
mechanism for it, but it wasn't working properly. It would only work on
some machines, in certain situations. For some, not at all.
There was an upstream fix. I haven't had any issues at all since
pulseaudio 3.0, and that would indicate that it in deed has been fixed now.
Hi all,
OT: does anyone know [someone who knows] Bassel Khartabil
(http://freebassel.org/). A friend of mine is about to make a film
documentary and likes to interview persons about him. Please send an
email to niki.e.korth(a)gmail.com subject:bassel

Greetings,
Hoping a list admin will reply.
What is the policy regarding posts offering gear for sale ? Obviously
I'm interested in selling some things I think would be of interest to
the members of this list and would like to give them first access.
TIA,

Hi list,
Why this forum is missing searching feature ?
pd list archives does have it and it seems that it runs on the same tech
ology like this list...
It is possibile to add search feature like here

?
thank you.

Thank you !.
setBfree saved my performance.
and yes, it seems that this 'clicky' sounds in bristol b43 is not a bug,
but is a pity that they cant be turned off..
best
fero
to summarize it all.
give the users
1) one WORKING ableton clone
2) WORKING VST support
&
3) something like WORKING ardour 3
— and they will be happily happy even with linux.
even with sloooow and monstrous ubuntu studio.
the rest is good to have, but not THAT critical.

I've installed vlc-plugin-jack and I'm trying to redirect the output of
vlc to jack using this command:
$ vlc -p jack --jack-auto-connect
VLC media player 2.0.5 Twoflower (revision 2.0.5-0-g1661b7d)
JACK audio input (access_jack)
--jack-input-auto-connect, --no-jack-input-auto-connect
Auto Connection (default disabled)
JACK audio output (jack)
--jack-auto-connect, --no-jack-auto-connect
Automatically connect to writable clients
(default enabled)
--jack-connect-regex <string>
Connect to clients matching
Note: add --advanced to your command line to see advanced options.
What's wrong?
I'm trying to do this because I want to listen to a file (exported by
Ardour) while Jack is running. Jack is using the same audio card
(internal) as Pulseaudio, that's the source of the problem.
Thanks in advance
