Needless to say that I'm very happy with my Gentoo audio box :) .
I would
definitely second that. I recently bought this used computer
(with relatively modest specs) and installed Gentoo Linux on it (my
first time, since I'm usually a Debian-man) and have so far enjoyed
surprisingly good performance, as far as low-latency audio goes.
Besides, if you don't mind getting your hands dirty, it can be really
fun and instructive.
Cheers,
