Hello,
I have a RPI2 that is used as a Squeezebox Server, a Squeezebox Player
(Squeezelite) and that does Room correction with Jackd and jconvolver.
It is running with a RT kernel.
CPU usage is around 35% (9% to 11% for each of the following services :
Jackd, Jconvolver, Squeezelite)
Mem usage is around 30% (same as above)
After a few minutes the Pi crashes.
I tried both :
jackd -d alsa -r 44100 -p 1024 -n 2 -P -s
and
jackd -d alsa -r 44100 -p 256 -n 2 -P -s
with no significative difference

I also played with priorities, affinity, RT sched
here again, with no significative difference
I also tried BruteFIR
CPU usage is even less.
Nevertheless, Rpi2 crashes after a while.

I have added to my config.txt
framebuffer_depth=32
framebuffer_ignore_alpha=1
Once again, with no significative difference
What do you suggest ???
I have also read on the net that Rpi2 has NEON and that it might help, if
so, how could I enable it ?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you Jeremy for your answer, unfortunately, I moved to a RT kernel
because it was crashing on a non RT but preemptible Kernel as I thought it
would help.

How does it crash? Any error messages? And does JACK crash or the RPi?

Most of the time, RPi2 send a continuous beep sound from the I2S DAC output
and is not anymore under control from putty, so, Yes it is RPi2 that
crashes.
Once upon a time, i have xruns errors although jackd is in softmode and
this whatever the buffer size.
I didn't experience problems when the RPi2 was running only
Jackd/jconvolver/Squeezelite (non RT).
I had the problem when running also squeezebox server (RT).
I had similar problems (buffer issues) with RPi2 was running
BruteFIR/Squeezelite/Squeezebox server, both RT and non RT.
I may have forgotten to try Jackd/jconvolver/Squeezelite + Squeezebox
server (non RT).
I will make this and report back.

Hello Jeremy,
It looks like it is much better on the non RT kernel.
I can't be sure it is not crashing anymore yet, but, for sure, it is more
stable.
Yesterday I have reverted to the NON RT Kernel as it was too stressfull.
And I may have an explanation for the crashes, I beleive that from time to
time the total memory of Pi is saturated. I have the feeling that
Squeezebox server is responsible for the crashes mainly because it
sometimes needs memory in excess while transcoding or something like that.
When I was running Jack + jconvolver + Squeezelite only on non RT kernel, I
didn't experience any crashes.
So Yesterday, I tried again everything on non RT and it didn't crashed.
And I also added the two following lines to config.txt, I don't know
exactly what it does, but i have the feeling it helps a little bit, even
with the RT kernel.
*framebuffer_depth=32framebuffer_ignore_alpha=1*
I will let everything running for a few hours in random mode, to see if it
crashes.
Anyway, I would like to know if the NEON stuff might help ? And if anybody
have an experience of building/running jconvolver with NEON ?
If it works, should also Jack and Squeezelite be built with the NEON ?

not sure about the current status, I have only old single core RPIs here and
have not played with them for a while in any case, but some time ago an issue
with the RPI2 was that load balancing between the cores meant that the caches
got invalidated as processes got switched between cores leading to x-runs each
switch ... a way to deal with that was to use the kernel systems for locking the
critical dsp threads to particular cores.

When I was using BruteFIR, I have tried that option without success.
I didn't try it with jconvolver.
However, now it is running without issues for 5 hours, a record !
Anyway, I'll try again what you describe, as I also beleive that locking
tasks to core is better for Audio quality.

that's rubbish, if your
system runs through and you don't get any
xruns it doesn't matter where the math is done, the quality solely
depends on your soundcard.

Hello,
Just to report that, on the non RT kernel everything is running fine for
more that 24 hours non stop in Random mode playback (the worst situation).
Since 24 hours I run mono only (1 channel)
CPU0 = Squeezelite, nice=-10, Schedule Policy : SCHED_FIFO, Schedule
Priority : 75
CPU1 = Jconvolver, nice=-15, Schedule Policy : SCHED_FIFO, Schedule
Priority : 80
CPU2 = Jack, nice=-20, Schedule Policy : SCHED_FIFO, Schedule Priority :
85
CPU0-3 = Squeezebox Server, nice=-5, Schedule Policy : SCHED_FIFO,
Schedule Priority : 65
CPU3 = Everything else
