Hi,
I've tried:
- gtick but it's not "jack compliant"
- kmetronome but didn't get it works with fluid soundfonts
- klick works fine for me, but not for my woman which is a dummy linux user
:-)
so, which metronome gui-app do you use... if any?

Well if Klick basically works, then it would be the question, what "your
woman" finds unintuitive about the GUI. I've seen the code. I couldn't really
change it, but it was small enough. Perhaps something could be worked out?
Basically the commandline interface is easy enough, perhaps one could directly
print the list of keys (which is VERY short) to change tempo and tme
signature. It doesn't look comfortable, but very down to the point.

Hi Julien,
she is studying piano, so I learned her how to connect my m-audio
keystation -> fluidsynth (qsynth) <-> qjacktcl... but klick doesn't have a
gui and as (every) end user she's not comfortable with cli (and really don't
need to be).

As I think you've just found there's gtklick, which is klick's GUI.
It's
written in Python. If you don't find it in te Debian archives, then download
the source package. It's easy to build, so you should manage. The GUI is
written in Python and relies - I think - on GTK (Gnome). From what I've seen
of that code, it looks very straight forward.
Why don't you use LinuxSampler (qsampler or jsampler) plus the Salamander or
the Maestro Grand piano, which are available for free download from the
linuxsampler.org website. They sound very good, especially for free
gigasamples and so are probably more enjoyable for a piano player.

I just went and checked, and the link for the Maestro Grand results in a
"Not Found" error, as does the link for the Mellotron samples.

soundfont wave forms, so don't let that stop you. :-)

The trick may be to disable sending note off events, or keeping note off
events but increasing the "Note duration" setting above the default 10 ticks.
Both settings are on menu "Settings"->"Configure KMetronome", or
using the
"Settings" button on the main window.
Please try a "modern" KMetronome release, latest is 0.10.0 published on
2010-06-06.

This was not a misunderstanding, it was bad memory from my side. And now
I remember that I usually use Qsynth or timidity for this. But I have
tested it with Linuxsampler too.
I haven't used a software metronome for more than half a year, because I
prefer my cheap KORG MA-30 with very low volume when I'm practising. By
using that one, I feel that it's very easy to play to a click track or
anything unfamiliar when recording.
But anyway: KMetronome is my choice when I use a software metronome. It's
so easy to make new patterns and rhythms on it, that it's also a valuable
composition and arranging tool. It's embarrassing that I forgot how
powerful and yet easy to use KMetronome is.

If I am playing to a click for recording, I use whatever is built-in
to Rosegarden or Ardour. Otherwise, I use an old fashioned discrete
metronome that runs off a 9 volt battery :-)
