Hello all,
We're pleased to announce the release of a new version of jackctlmmc
and a new Qt based graphical version called QJackMMC. The main page
including download links and documentation is here:
http://jackctlmmc.sourceforge.net/
In brief, QJackMMC is a Qt based program that can connect to a device
or program that emits Midi Machine Code (MMC) and allow it to drive
JACK transport, which in turn can control other programs. JackCtlMMC
is a slightly simpler command-line version of QJackMMC. You might need
such a tool if you have hard-disk recorders (HDRs) or other external
MIDI compliant devices that are capable of sending out MMC to keep
other devices in sync. You might have a multi-track recorder and you
want to be able to start, stop, or fast-forward JACK-based programs
such as Rosegarden, Hydrogen, and Ardour.
Enjoy,

January 15th marked the official launch of Renoise 2.0, a unique tool
for music making. To celebrate this huge milestone we're doing a
special promo. All the details, including information on how to
download the free demo, can be found at:
http://www.renoise.com/launch/
With over four months of exhaustive testing behind it, Renoise 2.0
incorporates a massive engine overhaul, hundreds of improvements, and
rock solid stability. A complete overview of all the new features can
be found at:
http://www.renoise.com/new/
ABOUT RENOISE:
A unique approach when compared with mainstream music sequencers,
Renoise's streamlined workflow delivers professional results on
Windows, Macintosh, or Linux.
Renoise 2.0 is a complete music production environment with support
for FX and instrument plug-ins, automatic plug-in delay compensation,
multi-core load balancing, MIDI i/o, audio recording, flexible audio
output, parameter automation, and much more.
Renoise is a mod tracker. If you've never used a tracker before,
don't be put off by the machine-code-like appearance of the main
editing screen. Ultimately, it's just a display of simple note and
effects information that is easily understood and, for the proficient
user, makes the creation of music far quicker than is possible in
traditional sequencers.
Why spend hours cobbling beats together with a mouse when you can do
it in seconds with a few keystrokes? Whether you're an audio veteran
or just starting out, Renoise is the perfect complement for anyone
looking for something new.
With Renoise 2.0 a generation of oldschool trackers and contemporary
musicians looking for something "different" have reason to celebrate.
TRACK ON!

This mail is to inform you that the paper submit deadline for the LAC2009
(Linux Audio Conference)(1) has been extended to January 29th, 2009.
So, if you have been shocked by the fact that the initial planned deadline
would be tomorrow, HERE is your chance to get your half-cooked paper/idea
into a good shape and submit(2) it now! :-).
(1) The LAC (Linux Audio Conference) is an annual event where developers,
users and composers from all around the world come together for 4 days
to present current developments, new compositions and other news to the
public, listen to concerts, and generally have a good time together.
The LAC2009 is taking place at the Casa della Musica in Parma, Italy,
from April 16th to 19th, 2009. The conference homepage is at
http://lac.linuxaudio.org/2009/.

guitarix is a simple Linux Rock Guitar amplifier for jack(Jack Audio Connektion Kit)
with one input and two outputs. Designed to get nice thrash/metal/rock/blues
guitar sounds. There are controls for bass, treble, gain, compressor, preamp,
balance, distortion, freeverb, impulse response (), crybaby(wah) and
echo . A fixed resonator will be used when distortion is disabled. For
'pressure' in the sound you can use the feedback and feedforward
sliders.
changelog:
guitarix (0.03.3-1) unstable; urgency=low
* add resampler for ir.wav files
* autoremove white space in ir.wav file names
* protected advanced setting widgets for destroy call from window manager
* add experimental tuner
* add jack midi out port
* add pitch tracker/beatdetector to midi converter
* add midi controlls for velocity, channel choose, program choose, okatve switch and sensity
* add more midi out channels (3), clean up the processing
* add controll interface for pitch tracker/beatdetector
* add extra tread for midi processing
* add system tray icon with menu
* add high cpu load sys tray warning and midi send notify
* clean up midi process
* set midi process to a lower rt level (-20) when run in realtime
* add compressor
* add midi controlles for volume and auto pichweel
Note: Release 0.03.3-1 include a experimental audio2midi converter
to simulate a LiveBandInTheBox.
I get best result's when use it with a Electret
Condenser Microphone (imp High). To use it with
a E-Guitar you need to figure out how to set the
beatdetector and sensity settings. You get better result's
when you only use one pick-up from your guitar.
guitarix based on Gtk, a great part is also realesed as ladspa plugin.

On behalf of the entire Rivendell development team, I'm pleased to announce
the release of Rivendell v1.2.2. Rivendell is a full-featured radio
automation system targeted for use in professional broadcast environments. It
is available under the GNU General Public License. Changes in this release
include (from the NEWS file):
*** snip snip ***
This is a maintenance release of Rivendell. The following issues have been
corrected:
Fixed a bug in RDAirPlay that caused a segfault when loading a log with no
SoundPanels enabled.
Improved heuristics to detect more reliably mal-formed MPEG import files.
Fixed a bug in RDLogManager that would generate truncated reports when the
ELR metadata contained double-quote characters.
Fixed a bug in RDAdmin that caused backslash characters to be 'doubled'
when saved as part of a Windows report export path.
Database Update:
This version of Rivendell uses database schema version 170, and will
automatically upgrade any earlier versions. To see the current schema
version prior to upgrade, see RDAdmin->SystemInfo.
As always, be sure to run RDAdmin immediately after upgrading to allow
any necessary changes to the database schema to be applied.

Greetings,
While browsing KVRAudio I happened to find news of the release of three
new VSTs for Linux (native .so format) from Loomer :
http://www.loomer.co.uk/
Aspect is a polyphonic synth. Resound is a delay/echo unit, and Manifold
is a harmonizer. They're available as plugins or standalone versions,
they support ALSA and JACK audio/MIDI connectivity (including JackMIDI),
and all appear to have been created with the JUCE framework. I checked
out the demos for Aspect and Resound, they worked very well in their
standalone versions.
Please note that these are commercial products, prices can be found on
their Web site. Also note that I have nothing to do with Loomer, they
don't even know I'm posting this announcement.
Fans of native Linux VST plugins might also be interested to known that
the pizmidi plugin collection was updated in December. These free
plugins (source on request) are some of the most useful helpers in my
MIDI work, you can check out the variety here :
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=192282
Piz has added some neat new plugins, they all work perfectly in the JOST
system. No standalone versions, sorry.
Again, I have nothing to do with the creation of this software beyond my
work with them as a user.
Best,
dp
