Just a note to say I've written up a short piece about the GNU/Linux
Audio Centre at Sounds Expo last week in London, and stuck it on
http://www.linuxmusician.com/ . There are a few photos too.

I got that with the real stream too.

Yup, I guess someone should mail them.

There is a mail loop between lad and lau.

Pure-data.org is wiki based so If you joined the community and did it
I'm sure many people would appreciate it and help.

No there isn't

Yes, but python have a reference-count garbage collector, so
the problem shouldn't matter for python.

Greetings:
I've narrowed down some parts of my current problems with sound. The
mouse is definitely a noise-maker: I move, I get a not-nice ripping
noise that tracks along with the mouse movement. I had hoped that the
problem would be the nVidia binary video driver, but the problem occurs
with the kernel sources driver as well. I've appended some background
info in case anyone sees an obvious flaw in the system.
A couple of things: I have no USB devices on this machine, so how can
I get rid of the usb-uhci stuff hanging off the same interrupt as the
SBLive ? Also, would it do any good to switch slots ?
I've tried a number of different changes to XF86Config, got no joy
from any. :( I've been working through the various suggestions from the
Audio Quality HOWTO, nothing has worked yet. I'm open to any other
non-$$$ suggested solutions...

Hi,
For a few days now i am trying to do something with rosegarden
(4.0.9.6) and fluidsynth (1.03) on my Planet box. One obstacle i could
not yet pass is that rosegarden plays only one track, the one
selected. I obviously miss something here.
I do admit i know close to nothing about midi, but i would be
gratefull if some could help me further.

Hi. I've read the stuff on the LAD website about the two low-latency
patch options for the 2.4 kernels -- Robert Love's preempt patch and
Andrew Morton's low-latency patch. Each are described as having
good and bad points in comparison. The way in which it's discussed
seems to suggest that one should choose one or the other; nowhere is
discussed whether it's a good or bad idea to apply both. But that
seems to be possible; the Debian package page for AM's low-latency
kernel patch indicates that it's compatible with the preempt patch.
So I guess I'm looking for advice about this. Are they indeed
compatible? Is there some reason why applying *both* would be a bad
thing?
Thanks for any info.

Hilarious comment from slashdot about this debacle, there's a lot of truth
there though, if you happen to come across it, don't touch it.

Hallo,
(sorry for crossposting, but this might be a Linux-using problem on my
side.)
I have a new toy (I couldn't resist, it's so cute): a Contour
ShuttleXpress USB Jog/Shuttle control surface, info at
http://contourdesign.com
Now of course I'm trying to make use of it in Pd on Linux. It is
recognized by the kernel as a HID device, and it is producing vrious
characters when doing "cat /dev/input/event3"
So I built Hans-Christoph's linuxevent from current pure-data.sf.net
CVS, which turned up a first problem: EV_RST isn't defined, but used
in linuxevent.c and linuxjoystick.c There is no EV_RST in
/usr/include/linux/input.h I just commented the offending two lines,
after that it builds and loads.
Creating a [linuxevent /dev/input/event3] object shows this:
#========
Configuring Contour Design ShuttleXpress on /dev/input/event3
Supported events:
Reset (type 0)
Event code 0 (Reset)
Event code 1 (Key)
Event code 2 (Relative)
Key (type 1)
Event code 256 (Btn0)
Event code 257 (Btn1)
Event code 258 (Btn2)
Event code 259 (Btn3)
Event code 260 (Btn4)
Event code 261 (Btn5)
Event code 262 (Btn6)
Event code 263 (Btn7)
Event code 264 (Btn8)
Event code 265 (Btn9)
Event code 266 (?)
Event code 267 (?)
Event code 268 (?)
Relative (type 2)
Event code 7 (Dial)
Event code 8 (Wheel)
Using 2 relative axes, 0 absolute axes, and 13 buttons.
#=======
Actually the device only has five buttons, but probably it's the same
as the ShuttlePRO by Contour internally, which has many buttons more.
Now the problem is: I pressed "start" or "poll" in the help patch, but
there is no movement in linuxevent's output. Also, but this probably
is my fault, one of the ShuttleXpress buttons acts as a right mouse
button, that is, it opens the context menu when in Pd, or the window
manager's root menu, when focus is outside of Pd. I did remove all
references to /dev/input from my XF86Config beforehand.
Does anyone have an idea, why I cannot get the device to play nice
with Pd??
ciao

Hello,
Because my sound card is gone for two weeks or so I need anew one.
I have following equipment:
multimedia Workstation where I like to install the new Audiosystem
I need entries for:
1. Tape-Deck
2. Record-Player (which support Schellack)
3. VHS-Recorder
5. Studio Microphone
6. Studio-Mix-Table (8 channels stereo and 4 mono)
and one Output for the Amplifier ( 5.1 ??? )
But in the same time I like to connect the soundcards from my
three other Workstations to the System too.
michelle1 my main Workstation
michelle2 my second Workstation
devel-woody my Devel-Station
My problem is, that I have not enough place in my Multimedia
Workstation (PCI, ISA, IRQ) why I like to use USB.
Now I have found the 'Yamaha Audio System DP-U50' and a
completset 'Yanaha System TSS1' for the USB-Port.
Does ALSA support such system ?
Or is there a better solution ?
Are there some (I know ther are) "Proffessionels" which can
help me to find the right stuff ?
Greetings
Michelle
